Author's Note: Just got back from the Veteran's Day service held in my city. The amount of patriotic feelings rushing through me is ridiculous. xD So, I came home. Sat down, and wrote this...drabble thing. Hope you enjoy.
"And Crown thy good, with brotherhood. From sea to shining Sea..."
His bright blue eyes shined with the last stanza of the song. His people honoring the great veterans and active duty members of his great Military. The service men and women that have served in World War I and II, The Korean War, Veitnam, and now the two wars his great country is fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. For the protection of American ideals. He stood up a little straighter today, his golden hair shining a bit more brighter. His hand gripped at the small flag. The flag of his country.
Alfred F. Jones stood proudly, honoring the courageous men and women that had served or are currently serving in the United States Military. The Military that served him, and their country, in times of war and tragedy. He paid no heed to the dog tags that currently hung around his neck, marking him as a veteran as well. Today was a day honoring the civilians, the humans that sacrificed so much for their country.
He turned and saluted his flag, as the other veterans did, as the somber and saddening first notes of taps were heard. His face straight as he recalled all the times he had heard this song played, at the death of a Military member. He lowered his hand after the last, resonating note sounded. Joining in with everyone else as they recited...
"I pledge alleigance, to the flag. Of the United States of America.
And to the republic, for which it stands.
One Nation.
Under God.
Indivisable.
With liberty, and Justice for all."
