That night while everyone was heading to the dining room for dinner, Lizzie managed to sneak into Derek's room to grab his camera, only seen by Edwin. When she finally joined the rest of her family for dinner Casey was beaming at her little sister.
"So how's Jamie?" she asked interestedly, referring to Lizzie's boyfriend.
"Oh, uh, he's fine," Lizzie muttered, her gaze landing on Edwin.
"I told the fam you were going to be a few minutes late 'cause you wanted to call Jamie," Edwin replied, giving her a knowing wink.
"Thank you," she mouthed in relief now that she didn't need to come up with an excuse for being late to dinner. Though she knew the only person who would've been curious about her absence was Casey. Derek was too busy shoveling into his mouth to have even noticed Lizzie was missing from the dinner table. George and Nora were engrossed in conversation about whether or not they needed electric blankets or just flannel sheets for their basement bedroom once winter hit. Marti, Lizzie's seven-year-old step-sister, was bemoaning the fact they didn't have a dog because she didn't want to eat the broccoli on her plate.
Edwin passed Lizzie a notebook under the table. It already had a page filled with observations.
"You've been busy," she murmured with approval.
"Well, it's pretty easy to find stuff once you know what to look for," Edwin said modestly, shrugging.
OPERATION DASEY:
THINGS THEY DO TO ONE ANOTHER:
1. They fight-Constantly
2. Derek insults/teases Casey
3. Casey insults Derek right back
4. They always sit across from each other at the dinner table-neutral fighting grounds?
5. Derek was furious with Casey for dating his best friend, Sam-yet wanted Casey and Sam together so Sam and Derek would win hockey playoffs-Derek seemed genuinely concerned (for a minute) while Casey was upset over Sam dumping her
6. Derek doesn't seem to hate Casey's new boyfriend, Max-yet he finds ways to infuriate Casey about dating Max regardless
THINGS WE CAN DO TO HELP THEM SEE
HOW RIGHT THEY ARE FOR EACH OTHER:
1. When having one-on-one conversations (ex. Lizzie and Casey) bring up the other person's name (ex. Derek) as often as possible and watch facial expressions/reactions when bringing up said person
2. Document their fights, private talks, shared glances, unshared glances/words-basically anything and everything significant (Edwin will edit to make it viewable)
3. Show Casey & Derek the finished product
"Brilliant, Edwin. We'll start taping tonight?"
"Affirmative," Edwin said with a nod, smiling at his sister.
