Welcome back Murdoch

Julia's point of view at the end of 'The Murdoch Identity.'

This is possibly the shortest thing I've ever written!

The minute she heard he was back, Julia stopped everything she was doing and made her way to the police station as fast as she could. Julia pushed her way through the one of the station doors, almost running into several policemen.

"Gentlemen." She greeted quickly. The police officers tipped their hats towards her.

"Doctor Ogden." They responded. Julia continued forward, following the voices. She could hear other officers laughing and she headed towards the sound, her heart beating faster and faster at the thought seeing William after such a long time.

Julia rounded the doorway, very aware that everyone had gone quiet as she came to a halt, her hand briefly touching the doorframe before coming to rest at her side. Her left hand fiddled with the hem of her top as she looked across the room at William.

The second she set eyes on him, time froze and nothing else mattered; not all of the eyes staring at her, not the fact William wanted a family she couldn't give, not the fact she hadn't yet told him she couldn't give him everything he ever wanted, not the past, not the future, none of it mattered. All that mattered was that he was here, safe and sound. Julia had a sudden urge to make sure he was really here; she had many dreams in the past week and a half about this very moment. She was suddenly filled with a fear that took her breath away at the thought that this was all a dream and that she would wake any moment now in the morgue, alone with William still missing.

William gave her a small nervous smile and Julia knew she couldn't contain the tears swelling in her eyes.

"Oh William…" The words escaped her in a strangled sigh. Julia crossed the room in a second, entering William's open arms, hugging him tightly and smiling into his shoulder as he swept her off her feet. He set her gently back down on ground and she pulled back slightly, giving William a teary smile. He leaned forward and Julia moved instantly as well until their lips met in a searing kiss. Julia threw her arms around his neck, the rest of the world fading away as she took in all of him at once; the feel of his soft lips on her own, the fabric of his suit under her hands, the smell of his cologne, his hands, one on the small of her back and the other pressing lightly in between her shoulder blades. Julia smiled inwardly knowing this was no dream.

When they separated, it seemed as the rest of the world came back to life and Julia was suddenly aware of all the cheering policemen around her and William.

"Welcome home Detective." She said breathily, tears slightly evident in her voice.

"Thank you Doctor." He responded, his excitement of being home creeping through his voice. Julia gave a tiny laughed and began to blush at the realization that the whole police force had seen them. She quickly wiped at her eyes, not wanting them all to see her tears, even if they were happy ones. William began talking to her and Julia realized in that moment she didn't really care what William had to say, just that she thankful he was alive and safe. She made a mental note to never let him out of her sight and to tell him just how much she loved him the instant they were alone.
