Throughout the history of the planet which Sonic the Hedgehog lives on, there has always been a balance between good and evil. With the events of the past few years and the continual loss of the evil beings that are primarily altered or manipulated by Dr Eggman and his creations. However, with the recent victory of Eggman and his past self (Dr Robotnik) being sealed in an area without time, the forces of good are completely unopposed and the balance has been shifted in ways that could not have been foreseen.
52 years before the events of Sonic Generations, an unknown force was sealed in a hidden base within a prison which has since been forgotten by all. This base was sealed by a time lock and other technological measures created by Gerald Robotnik as he realised the danger that this creature would pose to the world. However, the time lock was removed due to the Time Eater's rampage throughout time. Now this unknown entity has escaped and it seeks to shift the natural balance in its own favour.
Prologue pt. 2:A gigantic crack in the sky appears over Station Square as the moon moves throughout the sky during the night. Beyond this crack lies an endless white void in which nothing should be able to exist. Yet, a man has fallen through it and is hurtling toward the ground. As he is falling to the ground, Dr Eggman screams into his wrist computer "Egg Fleet Ship: Black Dawn, scramble to my location. NOW!"
As the crack in the sky began to seal itself, a star in the distance got brighter and brighter as something got closer and closer. A sleek, shiny medium sized ship appeared in the skies and caught Eggman about a mile above the ground. Dr Eggman brushed of the concerns of his robots, "Right, get me to Egg Base 23, I need the temporal crisis detector and I need it yesterday. NOW, MOVE IT!" he commanded.
Suddenly, The Black Dawn lurched as explosions rocked the ship and section after section began to cease working. As a blue blur shot through the cockpit, Eggman exclaimed "NO, YOU BLASTED, INFERNAL HEDGEHOG! YOU NEED TO STOP; I'M TRYING TO SAVE THE WORLD! I'M TRYING TO SAVE EVERYTHING AND YOU ARE RUINING MY PLANS!
Sonic replied "We have had the most peaceful time in my life since I can remember and I will not let you ruin it with your insane delusions of grandeur. THIS IS OVER, EGGMAN!
Sonic sped over to Eggman, grabbed him by his coat and threw him out of the window of the cockpit, leaped after him, hit the ground first and caught him just before he hit the ground. Station Square Police surrounded Eggman and Sonic, and the officer in charge declared "Freeze Eggman! You are under arrest for crimes against humanity.
Eggman shouted "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, NONE OF YOU UNDERSTAND! THE DARKNESS IS COMING AND IT CANNOT BE STOPPED! IT'S COMING, THE DARKNESS IS COMING!" as he was shoved into the back of a paddy wagon.
