Heart in Your Hand
A Glee Drabble.
Holding hands had always been important to Kurt Hummel. Ever since taking his father's hand at his mother's graveside.
Singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was, he found, an excellent way of expressing what he couldn't say any other way.
The whole concept was pretty ingenious. While the rest of the world focused on maintaining gender roles and quashing anything that might disturb the peaceful image of the nuclear family (such as divorce, non-Christians, and homosexuals), The Beatles were keeping it simple. It wasn't a song about sex, whether the act or the idea, and it wasn't about obsessing over love, or pining for a love you couldn't have. No, it was simply about holding hands. It didn't have to be more than platonic. But Kurt found the idea to be way before it's time, because clearly not enough people realized the subtle significance of the song.
Even Shakespeare knew that holding hands was a truly romantic gesture, and one that didn't necessarily have to lead to anything more. Romeo and Juliet spoke of that (the whole "palm to palm is holy palmer's kiss").
Every time someone slid a hand into his, it made his heart just a little bit lighter. Mercedes did it most often. It could be when they were walking down the hall, arms crossed together, or at the mall, or when family tragedies struck.
Even Rachel had held his hand during their duet. And he did indeed see it as 'happy times are here again'.
But of all of the hands he had held, none had made him feel truly less alone.
None, of course, until his.
He didn't care if all they were was friends. It didn't matter.
The only thing that mattered was that upon first meeting on that grand staircase, Blaine had held his hand. And he hadn't let go even as they were running down the shortcut to the senior common room.
He hadn't let go.
A/N: First Glee fic, so be kind but please give some feedback. I just watched the Never Been Kissed episode (I'm a new Glee fan, only started watching it a week or so ago and I'm trying to get caught up.) and I think I'm a bit obsessed with it.
So, please review and let me know what you think.
