The lights at Victrola began to shut off one by one. The few remaining people dispersed. The alcohol had all been sold, but the alluring smell of it lingered in the dark room. The last of the music drifted to a low murmur and then was no more. The night was over.
"You were amazing up there," Chuck told her as they walked out onto the sidewalk. It was the city that never sleeps, yet all was quiet—serene.
Blair smiled shyly, "Thank you." Her words were simple, brief. She had lived for one night, but now it was coming to an end.
The black stretch limo pulled up in front of them. She stared at her reflection in the mirror until the driver came around and opened the door, making it disappear. She looked up to see Chuck standing there, his hand motioned inside.
"Do you need a lift home?" he asked. He smirked at her in the truest of form of Bass. His dark hair was already messy, his suit ruffled. But he never looked better.
It seemed like going with him would change everything. But that was deceiving, wasn't it? It would be fun, electrifying. But all rides came to an end? They couldn't go on forever. So perhaps it was better to just stay on the sidewalk. A car wouldn't hit her there. The road was a dangerous and sometimes endless place. It was best to just remain where one was, where they felt safe. But boy did she want to go with him. A decision was made.
Blair sighed, "Thanks, but no thanks, Bass. I have a lot to think about. The long walk will give me some time to clear my head." She nodded at him and took a step back, away from all that sparkled and shined. Into the darkness she would remain, but that was her comfort zone.
Chuck's face fell some, but then he put on a front and shrugged. "Your loss then, Waldorf. Guess I'll catch you later," he concluded. He held his head high and climbed back into the limo. The driver closed the door, started the engine, and then it disappeared down the road like a Bass thrown back in the river.
"Bye Chuck," Blair whispered. She then wrapped her arms around herself and turned towards the direction of her home. It would be a long way home and her feet would hurt like hell in the morning, but she'd feel better once she got there.
