The Detective's Daughter

Ch 1

A/N: This is my first attempt at fan fiction. Please review with constructive criticism, it's the only way I know if anyone wants me to continue this.

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters from CSI NY.

I met Donald Flack Jr about two years ago. I had just moved back to New York and was visiting my dad, Mac Taylor. He was taking me out to lunch and I was meeting him at his office.

When I entered the building and asked where dad's office was, Don overheard and offered to show me the way. He was headed over to see Danny anyway. We made the normal small talk on the way and when we reached dad's office he asked me to go get a cup of coffee some time that night. Let's face it, Don is an extremely handsome man and I've always had a thing for tall, dark haired men. Just after I agreed my dad came out of his office.

"Daddy!" I've always been daddy's little girl.

"Kathryn. Getting settled into the new apartment?"

"I'm making progress. It'll take a while to get everything unpacked though."

At this point Don, who was a little shocked cut in. "You're Mac's daughter?"

"Yah. I guess I didn't introduce myself properly before. I'm Kathryn Taylor. Still want that coffee later?"

"I'll meet you at the diner across the street. I'd better go see what Danny has for me."

After he left I could feel the holes my dad was staring into the back of my head. "You two are going out for coffee?"

"Yes. Is that ok with you?"

"I suppose you're a little too old for me to be dictating who you can and can't be around."

"Well I'm glad you finally realized that. It only took you 24 years."

"Watch it kid."

After lunch, dad went back to work on his latest case and I went to do a little shopping. At six I headed back to meet Don. When I finally made it to the diner Don had mentioned earlier I was a little late. Don was sitting in a booth waiting for me.

"I was beginning to wonder if you'd show" he said while I slid into the booth across from him.

"Sorry. Still getting used to the city. Got a little turned around on the way here. I hope you weren't waiting too long."

"Nah. About 10 minutes. So what made you move back to New York?"

"I got a job offer from the Met. I've always liked the city, plus I can be close to my dad."

"I never realized Mac had any kids"

"I'm the only one. He and my mom were together when he was still in the Corps. She decided having a kid was just too much work and dropped me off at my grandparents. It was just the two of us until he met Claire. What about you? Any brothers or sisters?"

"Yah. One older sister. I think that's all my parents could handle. We were a handful."

"What made you want to become a cop?"

"My dad and granddad were both on the force. It's all I've ever wanted to be."

The evening flew by and before they knew it nine o'clock was rolling around.

"I really should get going. I have to be to work early tomorrow" Kathryn said with reluctance.

"Look I've got Friday night off. Would you wanna go get something to eat, maybe see a movie or something?"

"Like a date?"

"Yah, as in a date"

"I'd love to."

"Great. I'll give you a call tomorrow"

"Good night Don"

"Good night"
