The light in his eyes didn't go out over night, but it still shocked Alfons when he didn't see them in Ed's eyes anymore.

It broke his heart to see the resigned, hopeless look in Edward's eyes.

"Ed?" He whispered.

The love of his life that had only looked at him as a brother stared back at him.

"I'm sorry for everything, Alfons." Ed told his room mate.

"What do you mean, Ed?" Alfons asked.

"I've been deluded for too long; I'll never see Al again. I can live here fully, I promise." Edward Elric told him.

"Ed, Al's still out there waiting for you." Alfons told his friend and crush.

"It's been five years; it's time for me to move on." Ed told his friend.

Alfons was at a loss for words.

He had never believed Ed's farfetched parallel world story, but he hated the cold resignation that shone in his friend's eyes.

"Ed, don't give up! What would Al say?" Alfons asked.

"Can we do something to show me that you're not my brother, so that I can forget about everything?" Edward asked Alfons.

Alfons's mind flown to all the things that they could do to follow that command, but he would not be manipulative.

He walked up, and gave Ed a chaste kiss on the lips.

"You wouldn't kiss your brother, would you?" Alfons asked, already knowing the answer to that one.

"I wouldn't, but I didn't kiss you. You kissed me." Ed reasoned.

Alfons knew that if they really kissed he wouldn't be able to stop, and he didn't want to scar Edward.

Ed had often told him that he looked like his brother, and he wouldn't push his feelings on to Edward.

Edward pulled Alfons down in to a kiss.

Alfons froze when he felt Ed's lips on his own.

"What? Can't handle a kiss?" Ed teased.

The light would remain lost from Ed's eyes after that day.

Their passion, and love making never brought the light back.

Alfons wished that he had caught the signs that it had been fading, so that he could have stopped it from fading.

Now there was no hope that it would ever come back, but Alfons couldn't give up his relationship with Ed to try to change things.
