Tar-Miriel is another of those fascinating characters of Numenor, along with Amandil.
I go by the story that Miriel and Elentir loved each other, but then Pharazon forced her to marry him, with the help of the bribed army, or something like that.
She was to be married this evening. Tar-Miriel almost could not absorb the information. She was to be married within an hour to Calion, also known as Pharazon. She kept telling herself this, trying to convince herself that this was really happening. It was not Elentir waiting for her downstairs.
Her maidens all were chatting happily about how Pharazon is such a handsome man, aren't you lucky, Numenor would become so much more powerful…
She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Did no one notice her bloodless cheeks, her trembling hands? Did no one see the dark circles under her eyes?
The wedding veil was fastened deftly on her head. Miriel felt like ripping it off and shredding it up. Tropical orange flowers from the south of Middle-earth were placed in her hand. No Elven-flowers for Pharazon.
If only Elentir was here! He would rescue her from her plight. He would know how to stop this. A wild plan of a dashing rescue by Elentir formulated in her mind. But she waved it away. This was not a story, or a fable. This was real life.
A sudden thought came to her. At least she was not of the Eldar. She would not be tied to Pharazon for eternity.
Elentir… Elentir… Her mind called out frantically. Would that he were here! But he would not come. Where was he now? Was he thinking of her? Did he still love her? Had he ever loved her, or were those glances and soft words just her imagination?
"My lady, it's time." A noblewoman poked her head around the door. Miriel slowly walked down the hallway with shuddering steps. No rescue from this nightmare there was for her.
PLEASE REVIEW! I desperately need help and advice on characterization!
As usual, I am experimenting with characterization. Tar-Miriel will probably have more stories written about her by me, so look out for those!
I apologize for the lack of accents. My computer refuses to obey on that point.
