Its ironical how loud silence can be. Sometimes, silence is the exact opposite of peaceful and only fills us with dread, anxiety and even physical pain.
She will be looking at the asteroids in front of her, mindlessly moving the steering wheel so as to avoid crashing into them. He will be sitting behind her, his hands mechanically stirring the martini he'll have in his hands. A man will be sleeping in the next room, blissfully unaffected by the thousands of tearing emotions in the room next door.
Both she and he will pretend to focus on their current task but their minds will be focused on wholly different matters. She'll be trying to figure out why she feels her heart skip a beat each time he says her name, why does she feel butterflies in her stomach whenever he smiles at her and why does she feel jealous of the fembots he so frequently dates.
His thoughts will linger on the same train as hers. Why does making her smile feel like if he had suddenly won the lottery? Why is it that her being there makes going to work worthwhile? Why does he want to be with her every second of every minute?
They will both answer their questions. They both will accept that what they feel for eachother is much more than a simple friendly feeling. They both will feel a pang in their heart for they know that they'll never be together. Too many people would disapprove, their best friend's heart would be shattered and eventually, all those things would end up slowly tearing their relationship apart. Why start something if they knew it'd be doomed from the beginning, no matter how big their love was? They will remain quiet for another while until he'll mutter something.
"Why us?"
She'll pretend she didn't listen but inside her, she'll wish she knew an answer. Silence will once again make itself present. It will scream in their ears, reminding them of their pain. It will howl and clutch their broken hearts. The silence will not leave however. It will return every time they are alone together and each time, it will scream.
