The Greater Things In Life

Alice watched her dear husband Jasper; sit in a sad, puzzled position from the doorstep to his study. She quickly decided his moment of psychical attempted suicide was over as she cheerfully made her way up to her blonde lover.

"Hey there, soldier! Why looking so gloomy?" The said man looked up at his cheerful wife with a small smile. He naturally opened his embrace for her and Alice, just as naturally, huddled up against his chest with Jasper's arm around her. Jasper gently leaned his head on hers and they quietly stayed like that for a while.

"I don't like to see you this sad, Jazz." Alice stated softly and broke the silence. Jasper didn't answer.

"You shouldn't let everything bring you down so easily. Try to look at the brighter and greater things in life sometimes too." At this Jasper couldn't help but to chuckle at his mate's innocence.

"The greater things in life?" Jasper raised an eyebrow of amusement.

"Yeah! Or think of the negative things that didn't happen." Alice said and suddenly turned so she stood on her knees in his arms, now making them equally in height. She looked with excitement into his eyes.

"Like this: when I was out shopping earlier today, there was a chance I'd happen to get into a car crash and die." She said with a big, bright smile.

Jasper couldn't hold it back any longer. Maybe it was because of the obvious wrong in her sentence or maybe it was because of the fact that she just looked absolutely adorable with that bright smile on her face. Either way it made him laugh out a loud laughter that was rare in the Cullen house. Alice watched her husband laugh with a soft smile, the fact that it was she that could make him open up like this made her all warm inside.

"Die in a car crash, you say?" Jasper finally was able to say after a long while of laughing. Alice grinned.

"Okay, the chance is small, I'll admit it, but you get what I mean." Alice laughed. Jasper shook his head, chuckling lightly.

"But seriously Jazz, look on the bright side sometimes too. It helps." Alice said and smiled at him before jumping out of his embrace and walked up the small window in his study and looked out at the beautiful view. Then she turned with a bright smile and said:

"… At least a little."

Jasper just stared at her. The shining sun outside reflected through the window, making Alice's vampiric skin sparkle a way even a diamond would envy. She was absolutely stunning.

"Huh? What are you staring at?" Alice asked when she noticed her mate's marvelous stares. She quickly looked down on her yellow dress to reassure it wasn't dirty. Not even wrinkle was visible. She looked up confused to be met of one of her lover's gently smiles.

"I'm just lookin' at the greater things in life." Alice was at first surprised by Jasper's loving words but then she felt the laughter bubble up inside of her.

Jasper watched his lover laugh her angelic laugh, still with a smile on his face. Yes, he had indeed some great things to look at in his life.
