In the Darkness Weep

Andromeda Tonks looked at herself in the full length mirror.
Her dark hair was lank and scraped into a tight bun, she wore no makeup, and there were dark hollows beneath her eyes. The sombre black cloak that she wore was loose - she'd lost a lot of weight recently, worrying about the very event that had fatally occurred.

Ted Tonks was dead. Her Ted. He was gone, and was never coming back. Tears leaked out if the corners of her eyes, and ran like streams through the laughter lines that life with Ted had created.
There would be no more laughter in this soulless house. It was deathly silent; a constant reminder that she was alone, and she didn't think she could take it much longer.
She screamed.

She couldn't stop, the high pitched scream unwavering despite the tears running freely down her face.

Why? Why her Ted? He was a good man, he didn't deserve this.
He'd never see his grandson born, never see his first smile, first step.

Andromeda closed her eyes and put a hand over her mouth. She slid down the wall, onto the ground, and buried her face in her hands.

She relied on her imagination to keep her sane. She was with Ted.

They were on their first date, at Hogsmede. He pulled out her chair for her and tripped over on his way back to his side of the table.

It was their wedding, and he didn't look away from her throughout the whole ceremony, sweetly pecking her cheek before her lips.

Dora was born, and she lay exhausted on the hospital bed. She watched Ted look at their daughter as if she were the crown jewels, as he cradled her carefully.

Andromeda opened her eyes, unwilling to face the reality of the day, and wiped the fresh tears off her face.

She walked to the fire, carefully avoiding the mirror, and grabbed a handful of floo powder.

For it was the day of Ted Tonks' funeral, and there was no way she'd miss it.
