Caroline woke up the next morning scared to death. She knew Charles was serious and she was getting a licking. Charles came in from the barn and Caroline made him and the girls breakfast and sent them off to school. As they went out the door Charles put his coffee down and said "You know you can't disrespect me life you did last night."
Looking at the ground she said "Yes Charles." He stood up and said "Bend over the table" She was nervous and excited as she obeyed. He lifted her dress and lowered her garments until her bottom was bare. "Don't move I will be right back." Charles went to the barn and returned with a buggy whip. "No Charles please." She pleaded.
He walked behind her and said "If you move you will get double." He then brought the whip down "WHIP ouch WHIP owww WHIP Charles WHIP pleaaaase WHIP it hurts WHIP WHIP" He continued "You WHIP disobeyed me WHIP and now WHIP you are WHIP being WHIP punished WHIP WHIP."
The fourteen lashed had her bottom lined with welts and bright red, Caroline was sobbing loudly. Charles thought about stopping but new he had to teach her a lesson. "WHIP Caroline you WHIP must learn WHIP to respect WHIP me more WHIP and to WHIP punish WHIP the girls WHIP when needed WHIP I do not WHIP like to WHIP come home WHIP from a WHIP long day WHIP of work WHIP to deal WHIP with them WHIP WHIP WHIP."
After thirty to licks Caroline was howling uncontrollably, her bottom full of welts and blisters. Charles dressed her as she remained bent over he pulled her up kissed her cheek and said "I love you honey I am sorry I had to do that. I am going to Mancado to take a load I will see you tomorrow afternoon." With that he left. She spent the next hour crying on her bed rubbing her bottom.
She managed to continue with her daily chores and went up to clean Mary and Laura's room. She was putting something in there dresser when she saw a book that Mary had wanted from the mercantile. Ms. Olsen had asked if Mary had taken and she said no. Her parents believed her. She had stolen it and Caroline was furious. Mary hadn't been whipped in years but that was going to change.
