Only a short chapter here guys, I hope you like.

Gene sat at his desk, CID all wary of his current attitude and mood.

But our story starts before this point; it starts just after he accidently shoots his DI and learns of her eventual death.

Now much like before, he drink endless amounts of whiskey and smokes like a chimney; his attitude is still very much the same. He is bitter, and showed his age badly now; his hair has started to go grey and his features had started to loosen. Lips that had gotten used to smiling now only showed a frown. His whole had turned upside down and it was evident on his face. Chris had felt sorry for him, he had followed the Guv and seen everything; saving his from a life in prison.

Gene got up from his chair and closed his blinds walking around his office, stopping at his board. There now was a picture of his Bolly along with the one of Sam Tyler. His eyes stung slightly, both his best friends; Dead!

"It's not your fault" that voice, he turned quickly looking for the source of that voice. He had missed it so much, however his heart deflated when he realised that the room was empty. "Why?" he whimpered, his fragile composure crumpled as he saw her, in all her glory. "Alex! Wait" she smiled and vanished out the door. He followed, not bothering to wipe away the tears; CID froze when Gene's office door flew open they were startled at the state of him.

Gene followed Alex; not paying attention to where he was being lead, just following her. She disappeared, he was left on the roof of the Fenchurch station he had once called home. To his left he saw movement, taking a glance he saw half of CID standing by the door he had just come through. Ray shouted across the roof but Gene wasn't listening, he was watching the figure that had appeared in front of him. A male figure, standing on the edge in a suit, he turned around and smiled at Gene.

All Gene could do was watch as his friend jumped from the building, he ran to the edge and heard a loud scream from someone. He stopped at the edge of the building and turned to his team. "Goodbye"

Gene was flying, and then everything went black. He couldn't even hear the screams anymore; he was at peace for once. See Gene had written out his will after Alex had died. He had realised that he had no children to support, so he had left all his money to Chris and Shaz, a recommendation for promotion along with most of his possessions for Ray. They were his family, his team. It wasn't going to fix things he knew, but it would be a start in the right direction.

What Gene hadn't expected was to wake up with a familiar face staring at his, worry in her eyes. He smiled "home again," tears fell down her cheeks while she cradled his hand in hers.
