The Unlikely Duo

Charlie Xavier had all her bags packed and loaded into the car and was about to take a five hour drive to her destination. Charlie had a supportive and loving family who didn't want to see her leave but it was time for her to go. She hugged her parents and said goodbye to her little adopted sister, Raven. Charlie was off to college; an experience unlike any other. She was off to study biology, specifically mutation. In the long run she was going to become a professor and teach children about various mutations and evolution.

Charlie got in her little blue, Toyota car and drove away from the big mansion in which she lived her entire life. It was a quiet drive for the most part. Charlie had her windows down with her music playing very quietly when a convertible full of teenage boys pulled up next to her at a stop light. Before they could even say anything, she turned to them and said, "I don't find you very attractive," smugly.

"You don't even know what I was going to say," one of the boys yelled back to her.

The light turned green and Charlie took another right turn as instructed by her GPS. See Charlie wasn't like most people. Actually Charlie wasn't like any other human. She had the power to read minds. But not just read minds, also to control them and communicate with them. Charlie figured out that it was a mutation that caused her to be different. She was a mutant. The only other person who knew about Charlie was her adopted sister Raven because Raven was also a mutant. Raven could impersonate anyone in the world just by looking at a picture of them.

About five hours later Charlie pulled in to the university parking lot and turned off her car. She wheeled her two big suitcases to the front desk to get her room key and see who her roommate was. Room 36 on the second floor was where she needed to be. Charlie knocked and then proceeded to unlike the door to her room. She found another girl the same age as her sitting on the floor facing away from the door.

"Hi, my name is Charlie Xavier," Charlie said extending her hand for the girl to shake after putting her bags down.

"Erika Lehnsherr," the girl said as she shook Charlie's hand.

Charlie of course knew Erika's biggest secret right away. Erika was also a mutant. Hello Erika. Charlie said to Erika through her mind. Erika scrambled to her feet immediately and looked at Charlie with suspicion. There's no need to be afraid. I'm a mutant like you. Charlie tried to explain.

"How are you doing that," Erika questioned as she moved farther away.

It's my mutant power. I'm telepathic. I have the power to read minds as well as speak to them. That's how I know you have the power to move metal.

"I thought I was alone." Erika said after a minute of processing everything.

"You're not alone Erika."
