It was the 1st of September. Dorea Potter stared impatiently at the clock on her kitchen wall. It said a quarter to ten. They should have been leaving half an hour ago. They would barely make it to King's Cross Station on time for the Hogarts Express.
"Kids, we are leaving in five minutes," she called up the stairs. She listened for an answer but got none. Shaking her head, she climbed the stairs up to the second floor. Halfway up she began to heard a loud banging. She hurried up the last flight. The banging was getting louder and louder. At the top of the stairs she saw what was making all the noise. Her daughter Lucy, who would be starting her fourth year in Hogwarts, was banging on the bathroom door and shouting at whoever was in there.
"Sirius Orion Black, get out of there right now. I need my toothbrush," she yelled through the door. Through the door, Mrs. Potter heard Sirius yell back "Go away Lucy. My hair needs to look perfect." Lucy's reply was to pound on the door. Mrs. Potter opened the bathroom door magically. Sirius was standing in front of the mirror, smoothing down his hair. Lucy rushed in and grabbed her toothbrush.
"Thanks, Mum," she said as she rushed past her. Mrs. Potter shook her head and went to see where James was.
She found him in his room, frantically throwing cloaks, school-books and a lot of other things into his trunk. His ten-year-old sister Alicia was talking to him but he was barely listening.
"Will you sent me lots of sweets from Honeydukes?" she asked him.
"Sure, whatever," James replied.
"And lots of pranks from Zonko's?"
"Yes."
"And Butterbeer from the Three Broomsticks?"
"Okay."
"And write to me every single day?"
"Yeah."
"Promise?"
"Sure... wait, what?"
"You have to write to me every day," said Alicia gloatingly. James cursed under his breath and stuffed his broomstick into his trunk. Mrs. Potter took out her wand again and, with a sweeping movement, all James' possesions were packed neatly in his trunk.
"Thanks a million, Mum," said James, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Come on, James, get a move on. We are leaving right now," said Mrs. Potter.
"Okay" said James, grabbing his trunk. Mrs. Potter yelled for the others. Sirius appeared and Alicia and Lucy came a minute later. They all piled into the car. Ten minutes into the journey, Lucy gave a gasp.
"I forgot my diary," she shouted.
"My broom servicing kit," shouted James.
"My comb," shouted Sirius.
"We are not going back," shouted Mrs. Potter.
