A/N: A few days ago I was watching Season 4 of Bones. The Purple Pond episode. I noticed that while talking to the coffee barista Booth flashed his badge and it was upside down. This little story hit me.
"Booth?" Bones asked in that 'I'm confused, but I don't want anyone to know' voice that she had perfected.
"Yes, Bones?" Booth kept the amusement from his voice.
"Have you ever flashed your badge upside down?"
"What?" Booth spluttered. "No, of course not! I am far too aware to make such a bonehead move."
"Hmm," Bones nodded and returned to her contemplation of the scenery outside the window.
Silence permeated the SUV for a few minutes before Booth finally restarted the conversation. "Seriously Bones, what kind of question was that? What brought that on?"
"Statistically, even you have to flash it upside down occasionally, Booth."
Booth shook his head. "Statistics aren't always right, Bones. They're an average."
"Hmm," Bones conceded. "Still, how would you know if you'd flashed it upside down or not? You don't check every time you flash it."
"How do you know I don't?"
Bones just looked at him and rolled her eyes. "Booth."
"Never happen, Bones. It just…it won't. I don't flash my badge upside down, ever."
"All right," Bones nodded.
A few weeks later Bones hid her amusement as Booth did, indeed, flash his badge upside down at the coffee guy.
