Befriend Me: AU
((In which all the characters are ooc as can be XP))
On Sundays, the angels usually took a break from all their duties and spent the day in Heaven's park. A moment's peace from their roles.
One particular Sunday, Elisiel was following his older brother around, shyly clutching onto the ends of Gabriel's jacket. The fledgling was overwhelmed by the number of angels at the park. Eli very rarely went to the park on Sunday, choosing other activities instead. Today however, Gabriel had bribed his little brother into accompanying him.
The angel's blue eyes glanced at the faces, trying to see if he recognized them. There were so many angels in Heaven that there wasn't an angel that knew every single sibling they had. Eli picked the eldest out, the other Archangels. Michael was sitting under some trees with Raphael, their dark eyes regarding their siblings with a sense of brotherly superiority. Lucifer was harassing one of the fledglings who was playing in the sandbox. When his head turned, Eli finally recognized him as Castiel.
Lucifer was holding something in his hands, high above the smaller angel's head. He was dangling it, encouraging Cas to jump for it, only to pull it out of reach again.
"Luci, please give Dean back!" Castiel cried.
"Reach for it, fledgling."
Beside him, Gabriel sighed heavily. This was normal routine for him, keeping Lucifer from harassing the fledglings, or at least from harassing them too much. Gabe laid a gentle hand on Eli's shoulder, looking down at him with a smile.
"I'm going to go talk to Lucifer, okay?" he said, "Why don't you go play?"
Elisiel clutched tightly to his brother's leg and shook his head. Laughing, Gabe gently pried the angel away from his leg and ruffled his hair. "Why don't you go say hi to Zachriel?" he encouraged, pointing towards the swings. "It will be alright, Eli."
With that, he stalked off towards the sandbox to deal with his older brother, leaving Elisiel standing in the middle of the park, alone. He stared at the swings and the angel Zachriel for a long time before he could bring himself to move.
Zachriel was swinging back and forth, using his wings to give himself more momentum. On his "descent", he suddenly realized that the swing beside him had been taken. He brought the swing to a stop, staring back at the other fledgling. Their eyes locked for a several moments before the newcomer pulled something from his pocket, holding it out for Zachriel.
"Want some candy?" Eli asked, offering something wrapped in a blue wrapper.
The angel nodded; he took the candy and began to unwrap it. "I'm Zachriel, by the way."
"Elisiel," the other angel replied, as he opened a piece of candy for himself.
Zachriel placed the ball of chocolate in his mouth, smiling as Eli opened one for himself. "Thanks!"
Returning the gesture, Eli smiled back, nodding slowly. "Gabriel gave them to me to convince me to come with him today."
There was a moment of silence as Zachriel chewed, trying to process why another angel would choose not to take advantage of their wonderful day of peace.
It was Eli who finally broke the silence, staring up at the sky above them longingly.
"Bet I can get higher than you," he challenged, somewhat awkwardly.
"There's no way," Zach replied, laughing as he pushed away from the ground to restart his swinging motions.
And this was how Zachriel and Elisiel first met each other in Heaven; destined to be forever close.
