A/N: I'm just a fan of the Secret Circle. I don't own any of it.
Follows season 1, episode 14 - the Valentine's episode.
Jake flicked the living room light off when he saw Adam's SUV pull up to the curb in front of Cassie's house. He watched Cassie hop out of the vehicle, wearing a short, clingy black dress. Adam hurried around to offer her an arm so he could escort her up to the front door.
"Such a gentleman," Jake muttered to himself. He watched Cassie open the door, and beckon Adam inside. Jake's stomach soured as he watched Adam follow her, shutting the door behind them.
He thought about calling Faye, about drowning his sorrows in a glass or two of whiskey. He should be trying to figure out Isaac's next move, trying to think of another way to keep the Circle - Cassie - safe.
Instead, Jake headed up to his bedroom, loathing himself for having cracked the drapes open earlier. He stayed back in the shadows, holding his breath while he waited.
Cassie and Adam came into the room, Cassie talking animatedly, her hands gesturing. Jake watched as she showed Adam something in her Book of Shadows, and Adam shook his head vehemently.
"Tell him off, Cassie," Jake said, hoping the conversation between the two would take a turn for the worse.
Luck was not on Jake's side as Adam reached out to brush a hand across Cassie's face, before moving in for a kiss.
Knowing he should look away, Jake watched until Cassie pulled away and held the book up again.
Adam looked frustrated, and Jake snickered. He had zero sympathy for Conant. He only cared about Cassie in so far as he wanted her to ignore half of her heritage. Jake thought he was an idiot - Cassie was so captivating because she was both light and dark. Trying to convince her to ignore her dark half was short-sighted, he thought. And an insult.
It didn't take long for Cassie to usher Adam out of her house, and Jake waited only until Adam had driven off before he headed next door.
He was knocking before he realized what he was doing.
"Jake," Cassie said, opening the door open a foot. She leaned on it, looking up at him. "What are you doing here? It's late."
"I had a hunch you'd be awake," he said. "I saw Adam leave."
"You saw him leave, huh?" Cassie's eyes sparkled, and Jake knew she suspected he'd been waiting up for her to get home. He didn't care.
"I thought we could talk about that totem you mentioned, the one Faye has?" Jake said, thinking fast.
"Right," Cassie smiled with a shake of her head. "It's late, Jake."
"And the totem could be something really nasty," Jake said, all innocence. "There might be something your Book of Shadows about it."
Cassie pursed her lips, and said, "I should send you home."
"But you won't," Jake predicted.
Cassie bit her lip and then pushed the door open wider. "I'm only doing this for Faye. Because I'm worried about her."
Jake chuckled. "For Faye, then." He brushed past, making sure he crowded her body with his own as he headed inside.
"I meant it, Jake!"
"I know, I know. I said I saw Adam leave, didn't I?"
Cassie rolled her eyes, and then led the way up the stairs to her bedroom.
Jake grinned as he followed her. She might be dating Adam right now, but as far as Jake was concerned, that wasn't going to last long at all. And he already had a lot more than just a foot in the door...
Finished.
