"The avatar is dead" the headlines read, but this was not news to anyone that knew her. Korra had died protecting the innocent at the hands of the "innocent", the streets had grown dangerous in republic city and not even the avatar was safe. Those that she was protecting were terrified of her and men, in their desire for power, feel compelled to kill that which frightens them. It was not a powerful opponent nor a weapon of mass destruction that killed her but glass, a bottle of liquid with a rag sticking out of the top. A "republic city cocktail" they called it, as soon as the glass broke she was covered in burning liquid and nothing anyone did could put out the flames and so the avatar, master of the four elements was brought low by glass bottle. This news was hard on everyone that knew her but none took it harder than assami, one day her wife had gone off to do her job like every other day and never made it home. A sad story to be sure but unfortunately not uncommon in republic city as of late, killed by the very people she was protecting. Bastards. Chief beifong was visibly infuriated and brought down harsh and swift justice or tried to at least but it turns out that try as you might you can't arrest an entire city and soon her actions were deemed oppressive and she was removed from office but that was years ago and any loss no matter how tragic cannot stop the passage of time.
A new avatar is rising and the council of the white lotus must find them before the next crisis menaces the world but they are not the only ones. The red lotus may have been stopped all those years ago but an idea is impossible to control and those not present at the day zakeer fell melded into the shadow, biding their time and the time is nigh.
It took nine years but the white lotus finally managed to find the new avatar a peasant girl from the earth kingdom by the name of jin but they were not quick enough, the red lotus found her first and while she managed to flee her family was not so lucky. The red lotus struck them down in rage once they learned the white lotus had found the avatar and taken her away.
And so it was that avatar jin began her training it was bitter work with even earthbending giving her difficulty. In the three years that have passed since then she has mastered earth bending and only begun to train in fire bending, but the red lotus will not be deterred, they know that they must seize the girl before she can become a fully realized avatar thus time is of the essence
