Great. It was his 10th birthday and his younger brother just NEEDED to be in the same room as him and his friends.
Had they been a normal family, Don would think it'd be okay for his younger brother to join him for the party, because normal kid brothers didn't ask so many questions.
"Can I try that?"
And instead of waiting for an answer, Charlie ran from the door towards Don and his friends, passed his father who just looked stumped and then gravity took over when Charlie tripped over his little feet.
Charlie landed face first in the big cake his mom had just set down.
"Charlie!" Don whined. "That's the second time you've destroyed my birthday cake in 3 years!"
"Forward momentum… forgot about that!" 6 year old Charlie grinned and got off the cake. "It tastes yummy though!" he swiped an amount of cake off his face and held his tiny hand up to Don. "Want some?"
"Dad!" Don whined again. Oh he hated to whine in front of his friends but Charlie always managed to ruin his birthday.
"Oh not to worry, Donnie." His father smiled brightly. "This year, your mom made sure that you'd have cake on your birthday."
Don looked at the door leading towards the kitchen and saw his mother emerge with an even bigger cake in her hands. "Happy birthday, Don." His mother smiled.
When Don looked behind him, little Charlie was sitting on the floor, licking cake and frosting off his hands. "Happy birthday to me!"
