Yeah, I've returned after what seems like a bajillion years, but I'm uploading an Undertale AU fan fiction. Let the toxicity begin!
In a distant world, humans and monsters lived together. Then one day, a war broke out between the two. After battling for quite some time, the monsters were driven underground by the humans, and a magic barrier was put in place to keep the monsters down below. Quite some time later, in the year 201X, a human fell to the Underground from the peak of Mt. Ebott. That is where our story begins.
"Oh, my head…" said a little girl. "I'm… really down here, aren't I?" She had somehow survived the fall with only minor injuries and landed in a pile of golden flowers. She thought she saw something in the corner of her eye. Within seconds, she had a strange feeling as though she was very cold and very hot at once. It only lasted for a second. "Well," she said, "I did just fall all the way down here. I guess it was my imagination. She walked down a hallway and entered a strange door.
Upon going through, she was greeted by a strange cat-like creature… "Hoi. I'm Retsa. Retsa the Temmie. You must be realleh confuzzled right about now. Someone ought to show you how things woik down here. I guess little ol' me will have to do."
The room seemed to get dark, and the strange creature now seemed to be in black and white. "In order to win this game, one must gather a lot of LV." The child looked confused. "What's LV stand for? Why, love, of course. Tem happen to have some to share. Love is found in little… friendliness pellets. You ready? Here they come. Catch as many as you can." Something drove the little girl to move to the right.
"Oy, mate, you missed them. Here they come again. Try to catch them this time." Again, the child move out of the way, this time going right through a hole in the pattern of these pellets.
Retsa lost his temper. "Is this a joke? Do you have a mental psychosis or something? Run. Into. The. Bullets!" The creature looked to the side for a moment, feeling like they'd made a careless mistake. "Friendliness pellets," he said with a smile. The child barely missed them by moving to the right.
Retsa changed his tone rather quickly. "You know what's going on here, don't you?! You just wanted to see me suffer!"
"Wait, I can explain. I really didn't mean to…" She stopped, rather confused as to why she missed them.
Suddenly, the fallen human was surrounded by an entire ring of bullets. Retsa shouted, "DIE!" before letting out a disturbing, boistrous laugh. The bullets were closing in on the human, ready to finish what the fall down the hole started. Here it finally comes, the human thought.
Before this blow was struck, Retsa was knocked out of the way by a bone summoned from the ground. Someone or something wanted the human alive.
A towering skeleton appeared before the human and said, "Such a lonely creature. Picking on a poor innocent child. Human, I am the great Papyrus. I am here to help you. You're the first human to fall down here in a long time. Come with me."
The color returned to the child's vision. She was rather confused but followed the skeleton up the hallway nonetheless. Just before the steps to another door, the human saw a twinkling light source. Almost instinctively she reached out and grabbed it. She heard a voice, "The shadow of the ruins looms above, filling you with determination."
"Sorry for dawdling," she said to Papyrus.
"It is quite all right, child. Most children who fall down here stop for no reason." said Papyrus. "Hmm, should I ask you for your name?"
The child answered, "My name's Jenny."
"Ah, I didn't even have to ask," said Papyrus. "I'm pleased to meet you, Jenny."
"No reason. You mean, you didn't see…?"
"See what?" said Papyrus.
"Uh, never mind," said Jenny, deciding she didn't want to come off as weird. She wasn't even 100% sure this was happening.
In the next room, there was a locked door. "Human, in the underground, you will need to solve puzzles to proceed. Here's a great example, and of course, I know the solution already." Papyrus then stepped on the correct tiles on the floor and opened the door.
In the next room, there were some spikes blocking the way with a switch nearby. "All right, human, let's see you solve these next two puzzles."
Jenny walked over to a switch that Papyrus had marked. She pulled the lever down, and the spikes went down, allowing them to cross.
The next puzzle was almost the same but with two switches. The correct switch, however, had also been marked by Papyrus.
"Splended," said Papyrus. "Let's move on."
Jenny took a closer look at the other switch. "It appears this switch is just a sticker Papyrus put here. He must've changed his mind about using it before realizing there was no way to peel it off."
The duo made their way through the hallways to a training dummy. "Human, along your way, you will encounter battles ahead. Fear not! Just stall for time by making conversation, and I the great Papyrus will end the battle immediately."
The human walked up to the dummy and the "battle" began.
"You encountered the training dummy…"
The fallen human attempted to follow the skeleton's advice, "Uh, how are—"
The dummy began to float away. The voice from earlier said, "With hardly a word, you find that the dummy has already grown tired of your nonsense."
Papyrus looked at what had happened completely dumbfounded. "Wowie, that's never happened before," he said with a sudden smile. "Excellent! Right this way, human."
Papyrus and Jenny entered the next door and took a right. "Another puzzle awaits. I wonder if you can solve it." Suddenly and without warning, a battle began.
"Froggit attacks," said the voice.
"What is that thing?" asked Jenny.
"Froggit. AT 4 DF 5. Life is difficult for this enemy."
"Uhh…" Jenny stammered.
Papyrus interrupted the battle by staring down the Froggit, who exited to the left.
"You win. You got 0 EXP and 0 Gold."
"Right this way, Jenny," said Papyrus, continuing their walk. They arrived at a large platform of spikes over a river bed of some kind. "This is the next puzzle. Whoever crafted this one really knew their stuff. It's very easy for first-timers to fail this puzzle and…" Papyrus stopped talking for a moment. "On second thought, this is not a very good puzzle. Human, hold my hand. I will lead the way for you."
Slowly and carefully, Papyrus led Jenny through the spikes, which seemed to only lower themselves for passage in certain spots.
They arrived in the next room. "You have done excellently thus far, human," said Papyrus.
"Um," Jenny thought to herself, "What was the point of him asking me my name exactly?"
"However, I must ask for your forgiveness. I'd like you to get to the end of this room unescorted. I'm sorry, but you simply must learn to be independent."
Jenny took a long walk to the end of the room and found Papyrus hiding behind a red towel.
"Ah, human, what excellent deduction skills you have! Now do you see? Even if it appears I'm not here to help you, I won't be far away. That was important for you to learn… as I have to leave for some business while you remain here. Please stay put though as it's dangerous to explore by yourself. I know. Here, take this cell phone." Papyrus handed the human a cell phone from 201X. "If something bad happens, please don't be afraid to call. I will return for you. Be good." With that, Papyrus left the human be.
Ten minutes passed. The human heard the voice again, "You feel yourself getting impatient."
"Eh…?" the human thought to themselves.
The voice then said, "You feel it would just be easier to go down the path yourself."
"…"
The voice lost their temper, "Oh, for Pete's sake… just go!"
Compulsively, Jenny walked into the next room. She got a phone call from Papyrus. "Oh, shoot, this was a mistake!" she said to herself, picking up the phone to answer Papyrus.
"Oh, my gosh!" said the voice.
"Hello, this is the great Papyrus. You have not left the room yet, have you?" Jenny didn't answer. "There are still several puzzles that I have not yet explained, so you should probably stay where you are. Be good, all right?"
"All right," Jenny responded.
"Good. I'll check in on you later…" said Papyrus. "Ta-ta for now." Papyrus hung up.
"Maybe I should go back…" Jenny thought to herself.
"Ribbit," said the Froggit next to Jenny. The voice began to translate for the Froggit.
"Human, I have some advice for you. If you ACT a certain way or FIGHT until the opponent is weakened, your enemy might not attack you anymore. If your opponent does not want to fight you anymore, please… use some MERCY, human."
Jenny was not certain what to do at this point, but she felt she had no choice but to continue moving on. Only time would tell what would become of her.
