A/N: Spoilers for the entire series! Erased is a series best experienced with NO knowledge so do yourself a favor and go watch it first, if you've already seen the entire series, it still might help to go watch to spot the differences.
So This fic will have a slightly ooc Satoru, basically how I would operate with his knowledge so i guess it's kind of like a self insert but not quite. Anyway What if Kayo was just a little more perceptive, what if Satoru was just a bit more expressive with his thoughts? What if he had just a little bit of PTSD? What if he had found out who the killer was before the car? What if he told someone?
I don't own Erased! All credit goes the original author. Without further adieu R&R and most importantly Enjoy the story!
PoV: Kayo
Mondays are the worst. Most kids feel justified in saying that because school gets in the way, like it's some prison. On the contrary she would do anything to be at school, at least there she didn't have to worry about Her. Kayo knew she couldn't though. On mondays she was usually late, if there at all, just like today.
She walks slowly as to not aggravate the bruises that seemed especially painful today. Not that she couldn't handle them, If there was one thing Kayo could do it was pretend. She'd often pretend she could go away, maybe on a small island? That's what she wanted most in this world. In Fact that's what she wrote her essay about. The town without me she had called it. In this case though, she pretended she wasn't hurt.
Shaking her head just slightly to rid herself from the overly hopeful thought, she continued walking to the school, She had been adamant about getting there soon as to avoid suspicion. Funny how she cared more about herself than someone she was apparently supposed to protect. She was a useless-
"Mom!" the sudden voice rang out and snapped her out of her thoughts. How did they know! She kept walking though as a boy, Satoru was his name she thought, ran by an oddly happy smile strewn across his face. How could he be so happy over something as simple as his mother? Maybe that's what she was supposed to feel, instead she felt… broken.
She took one more look over her shoulder at the boy disappearing slowly down the street. What an idiot. She thought, turning and continuing on to the school.

How'd she get caught up in this? Today she had been approached by a boy, saying a friend of his had a crush on her. Now she was by the river, and in front of her:
"H-h-hey!" it was the boy from before, Satoru. He was definitely interesting she admitted..
"Your an idiot." she mused aloud.
"THAT'S HOW YOU SAY HELLO!?" his expression turned worried suddenly, as if he didn't mean to say it aloud. "Um Kayo? I was thinking since we walk the same way, maybe we could be friends?"
"Friends? What is it you like about me?" even though her tone was angry, it was an honest question but one she possibly had an answer to, "you don't have to answer that if you don't want to i think i know. You're just like me, you're fake too." Putting up a facade to fool the rest of the world. Playing pretend in a vain attempt to fool herself. He probably didn't have the same reason though. "I saw you running home." her voice was surprisingly soft, "Do you really love your mom that much?"
"Y-yeah." he responded, she felt saddened, maybe jealous? She wasn't quite sure.
"That's good," She began to walk away, this conversation was dragging along.
"So, Kayo? What about it? Wanna be friends." Why was he trying so hard?
"What, does that mean you'd kill for me?" his face contorted suddenly, Jeez it was only a joke no need to take it so seriously, what an idiot. She walked the rest of the way up the stairs and out of the way.
Why did he want to be her friend? He hadn't shown ANY interest in her before today, at least not to her knowledge. Either way it's not like she was particularly interesting anyway. She was nothing.
But he is so persistent. It's like he loves her or something. Blood rushed to her cheeks at the thought. Maybe he does like me?

No way… ,and with that she walked back to her mother's house.

Today was such a drag, but even still, she couldn't go home , not now. The park was a nice place though. She'd often stay here for a few hours. Anywhere but that horrid place. A sudden burst of wind reminded her of her cold hands. She used to have a nice pair of gloves. She'd 'Lost' them a while ago. Back when-
"Kayo!" there it was again, the voice that belonged to the interesting boy who just wouldn't leave her alone, he walked up slowly stopping just before the tree.
"Satoru, what in the world are you doing out here?" it was cold today and he shouldn't be out.
"I was going to ask the same thing?" why do you care? Kayo wanted to ask but she managed to catch herself. He wore a worried expression, it matched in his voice too, "I meant what i said i wanna be friends, I wont kill anyone though that's a bit too much"
"No duh that was a joke," It probably wasn't really easy to see that though, her deadpan expression made most of her 'jokes' sound too serious, "I know what your doing Satoru, your pretending to be nice, to care about others." It was obvious to her, the master of pretending her problems didn't exist, if only for a while. " I don't think it's bad or anything. I just can't tell what your like. That probably sounds funny coming from me."
His gaze cast downward, "Your right, i am pretending." he sounded… ashamed? "I want to have friends, and so i had to think, what did everyone else do to get friends, what could a loser with no social skills do to get people to like him." he took a tentative step forward and looked up, a renewed and hopeful smile made the surrounding darkness brighten just a bit, his steps continued until he was standing just out of arm's length "Then it hit me, you have to like others before they could like you. And you know what? It worked! It was really hard at first but after a while it got really easy!"
That seemed to strike a chord, she could relate to that. "Yeah and the more you do it the better a chance it works."
A gasp resonated, just barely audible. "Hey Kayo, i bought something for you." He took something out of his pocket and handed it to her, a small envelope, "I'm having a birthday party and i want you to come!"
Birthday? Really? Or is this another trick, like the christmas tree Misato bragged about? Was he trying to make her jealous of all his presents "Are you sure? Won't there be like, tons of people?" to humiliate me in front of?
"I'm not sure yet i wanted to give you the first invitation!" what? Why would you want someone like me to come? She quickly realized she had dropped her guard and recomposed herself. "It's on The second of march," The second? We share the same birthday? For some reason her heart seemed to flutter at the thought, "So you gonna come?"
"U-uh huh," She looked down, suddenly finding it really hard to keep eye contact with the boy, her gaze stopped when she noticed his hands, no gloves to protect him from the frigid temperatures. "H-hey aren't your hands cold?"
"Huh?" he brought his hands up as if to demonstrate a point, she felt the sudden urge to hold his hand. "Yeah just a bit i got some new gloves but i think i lost 'em." before she could stop herself she placed her hand on his, his fingers just barely peeking over hers. a warm feeling spread through her and she took a step back. To be honest that feeling scared her a little.
"Satoru are you okay?" he snapped out of his little trance with a bright red blush dusting his cheeks.
"Y-y-ye-yea-ye-yeah I mean my hands way bigger than yours huh?" she fought the urge to roll her eyes but somehow she couldn't stop the three specific words from slipping out of her mouth.
"Your an idiot," well too late to stop now. "Still though, your okay. I find it really easy to talk to you."
He bashfully raised his hand to his face, "Well its cause i decided to be honest with you.," To say she was shocked would have been an understatement. She had to go! She quickly turned around and ran, "Hey Kayo, So See ya tomorrow!?" he called after her.
You idiot, of course you will.
