Summer drove down his road, for the fifth time today.
He wasn't there. Why wasn't he there. He told her that they had plans.
She found him at the end of his road, hunched over.
As she got closer she noticed he had a knife in his hand.
He was bleeding.
"Cohen!" She screamed as she got out of the car.
He didn't move.
As she ran over to him, a million thoughts were crossing her mind, what the hell was he doing, why?
She approached him, and he managed to turn his head.
"Why?" She asked.
"She shot him. She shot him."
"Who? Who shot who?" I asked, puzzled.
"Jess. She shot Ryan."
"What? Why?"
"He took the fall for Marissa, so Jess shot him because she had plans with Trey, she said she loved him, but that's bullshit."
"Is he..."
"Dead, yes."
"Oh my god. I always thought Chino would out live us all. I can't believe it." She said, tears almost coming out. "Cohen I'm sorry, but you shouldn't do this..."
"I could have done something. I was right outside, waiting for Ryan to get his wallet that he dropped at Treys that night. I could have been inside, talking her out of it. But me, being the pussy I am, waited outside. I heard the gunshot, and ran to the car to hide myself, but she didn't leave. She didn't leave until it was too late, when she did leave I called 911. But by that time I knew he was...I could have called them anyway, but I was too stupid to remember."
"Cohen, you managed to live before Ryan. Now I'm not saying that you shouldn't be upset, because you should. But don't do this."
"How can you say I lived before Ryan? My life didn't start until he got there. Did you even know my name before he came?"
She did of course, his grandfather was the richest guy in town. But in this situation she would have to think of something better.
"You were Marissa's neighbor."
"Okay. You knew my name. Do you remember talking to me?"
She couldn't find a way out of this one.
"No."
"Well I do. I remember in 8th grade, I accidentally walked into you, dropping all my books. You called me a freak, and laughed when I dropped my books again."
"I was a bitch, I'll admit it. But it's different now Cohen. You changed me Cohen. You made me a better person, and for that, you deserve to live. You changed someone's life."
"You ignored me when Ryan wasn't here, who's to say you wont do the same thing now that he's gone." He said, looking at me with sad eyes.
"Back then I didn't love you."
His eyes light up for a second, but he became sad again.
"Can we pretend you didn't say that? I don't deserve to be happy right now, and I want to be happy when you say it."
She would tell him he deserves to be happy, but she understood.
"Sure thing Cohen."
She then took the knife from his hands.
"C'mon, let's go to your house." She slid her hand into his and kissed him on the forehead as they got up, but then saw the huge gash on his wrist. "Or the hospital, which ever." She said, getting a tiny smile out of him.
