An X-Files X-mas

Chapter 1: Monday, December 3rd

----

It was only eight thirty in the morning and I knew it was going to be a bad day.My alarm clock didn't go off, I got conditioner in my eyes, there was a power bump, I was running late for work, got stopped by the cops for speeding, and the office door was locked, and then I found out that my key was on my kitchen table. I had to wait twenty minutes for Mulder to get there and let me in.

Later I realised what day it was: December third. Mulder left for about ten minutes while I worked on a report, and I didn't have a single idea about what he was up to. I found out soon enough when he bounded back into the room carrying a Rubbermaid tub.

"What's that, Mulder?" I asked, the fatigue from my hectic morning still clouding my mind. "Decorations," Mulder called back. I wasn't exactly all for decorating at the moment, the fact being that I hadn't even gone to get a cup of coffee yet. After I have a couple cups of the stuff, I'm fine. Any more than three cups and I'm bouncing off the walls.

Mulder had apparently had a gallon and a half of Full Throttle. He was putting up decorations all over, while I, with my temporary waking-up-retardedness, just sat at my deak and watched him. While he was fully occupied, I finally decided to get off my butt and get a cup of coffee. When I came back, I had my second cup of coffee in hand. I had downed the first at the machine in a record five seconds. I downed this one and waited for the buzz to hit me. It did, and now I was helping test lights, untangle garland, and making sure Mulder didn't fall off the stepladder. He was pretty high strung today.

I finished my report just in the nick of time and got it up to Skinner. I walked to the elevator just to run into Jeffrey Spender. I hoped he didn't bring up the topic of his mother, Cassandra. He had gotten on my case enough about visiting her, even when it was Cassandra calling me and inviting me over to visit. She swore every time I visited to not tell her son, but somehow he always found out. Mentally, I grimaced when he spoke to me.

"I was just coming down to talk with your partner," he said. Thank God he wasn't talking about me or anything. I nodded nonchalantly to hide my nervousness. "Ah." A few seconds later(which seemed like an eternity with Spender next to me), the elevator opened and I walked quickly to the office door. Opening it I saw that Mulder had gotten lights up and a pathetic little Charlie Brown tree on top of the filing cabinet.

"Holy crud, Mulder! I left for fifteen minutes!" I said. Mulder was still straightening up his desk, making room for a little tiny Christmas tree. I had no idea it talked and sang segments of Carols until I walked past it to my desk. It scared the heck outta me, and Mulder leaned back in his chair and laughed. Spender got a kick out of it too. Apparently he hadn't seen me jump before. I yelped a bit, and that might have been part of it. I straightened my jacket and shot them both one of my 'Shut up' glares and silence filled the room. I could almost swear I heard muffled snickering behind me when I went to my desk.

"Nah, c'mon, Scully, you have to admit that was funny. Just once." Mulder told me. "Okay, I admit it. It WAS funny!" I said. Here was a chance to mess with his sweet head. Mulder looked surprised, and I almost laughed. I smothered the urge to laugh with all I had in me. It was extremely difficult.

"Wasn't expecting that coming from you, Scully," Mulder said, still partially shocked. I let out a slight laugh, and Spender pulled up a chair and talked to Mulder in a whisper. I strained to hear what they were saying, but gave up when I couldn't hear a thing.

I hope to finish this one and get decent reviews. Thank you!
