STARSKY & HUTCH

WE NEARLY MADE IT
(Missing scene Covergirl – Hutch's POV)

We nearly made it, but for the second time destiny decided to step in. No matter how hard we tried, two separate careers were very hard to combine. You were a successful model and I was a police detective. Your world was full of glamour; my world was full of danger. We both tried to pretend it didn't matter, but it did. Reality caught up to us before we knew it.

We tried once, and we chose to try again
But the day came, that we couldn't go on
lying to ourselves

Each day we were living a lie. A lie that eventually became too painful to live. One morning, after a night of doing something only lovers do, we looked up at each other. Caught in each others gaze, the undeniable truth was visible in the eyes of our soul. You saw my hopes and dreams for the future, but in the depths of your sad looking eyes, I saw the answer even before you slowly shook your head, your lips whispering 'no'…

Dreams sometimes remain just what they are
Only dreams

My dreams came too early for you.
I wanted you to walk with me

through a door I had opened for us
now I had no choice
but to let you walk away alone

You reached out to take my cold hands into yours. I almost choked on the tears stuck in my throat. Suddenly we were in each other's arms holding on for dear life. O god, I didn't want to let you go.

This was it
The last time I could hold you
The last time I could feel you
The last time I could be with you
The last time I could dream

We had to live for now, not for what once was. It wouldn't be fair of me to expect you would stay, not even out of the name of love. Our love was as true as it could be. We had our chance, and again it just wasn't meant to be.

It didn't help to ask myself 'why'
Deep inside I knew the answer
but 'why' did it have to hurt so much?

When I walked out, I never looked back to where you were standing with a tear-stained face. I was afraid I would break down too, if I looked back one more time.
After I closed the door behind me; my only dream came to an end.

Now it's all gone, but we nearly made it…
