I don't own Monster Rancher

I don't own Monster Rancher.

Just a poem I wrote about what Golem might have been thinking before he met up with Genki and the others. I don't know if this is really all that good, it's just something I came up with when I was thinking about the big guy. Hope you like it.

I am the guardian of the forest

I protect the grave of the discs.

I watch over this static place

Where the only sound comes from scattered birdsong,

The only movement comes from the flowers

Gently waving delicate petals in the breeze.

Once

There was laughter and life here

Monsters filled this valley instead of lost discs.

Here they made their homes

We planned for our bright futures

Our hopes and dreams giving this place a spirit all its own.

Once

I had many friends here

We played our games in this valley

Under a sun that shone like the dreams that we had.

I loved and was loved in return

I watched my friends and family grow

And we all looked forward to a peaceful tomorrow.

Now

The peace that reigns here is the peace of the dead

And only the birds sing here

Their melody sometimes seeming to carry with it

The sound of merry voices from an eternity ago

The strains of a song long silenced by time.

Now

Only the flowers dance in the breeze

No longer stirred to the winds

By the careless frolicking of young monsters

Who might not have noticed the small blossoms beneath them

As they ran through living fields

Eyes locked on sunny skies above them.

I am the guardian.

This is my purpose.

I protect.

I watch.
