I ran through the door, sword in hand.

"Carter!" I yelled. There he was, lying on the ground. He seemed like he was unconscious.

"Heh, so you came alone, just like I asked…" A figure popped up from behind me.

"You… Dirty bastard…" I muttered. I got myself into a battle ready stance.

"You know," The figure said, shrugging. "I always wondered why you act so protectively around your friends. Oh well. Time to wake him up, kill him, kill you, and get out of here." The said figure walked up to Carter and kicked him in the gut. I grimaced.

"Hey, you! Wake up!" He kicked Carter again.

"What… I just had this terrible dream…" Carter said, opening his eyes. "Wait. Where the hell am I? Yu?" I could only nod at him in confirmation, my eyes full of terror. I had only faced a person's shadow alone once, and never wanted to do it again.

"Hey, sonny. Look at me." The shadow grabbed Carter's face and turned it so their eyes met. "Notice anything?"

"You're… me?" Carter asked, confused as hell. This was probably going on too fast. I mean, he went from waking up to seeing his shadow in a couple of seconds.

"Yes, you dumbass," The shadow replied.

"But… that's impossibl-"

"Apparently, it aint so, right? I mean, I'm here, dummy."

"…Why are you so rude?"

"Because I'm you."

"You're… me?"

"Yes, for crying out loud! You said that, like, 10 seconds ago!"

"But, stil-"

"You know what, shut the hell up. I am you. I hate life. Every time I think I'm helping, I make things worse. I don't have any talents, and I can't do anything because I'm so damn lazy. I hate my life. All of the time, I wish that salvation through death would actually happen." The shadow seemed like he was having a blast.

"…No."

Oh god.

"You're not me. You will never be me. I said it before, and I'll say it again: You are not me!"

Shit.
