"Kate!" Castle yelled, as he pounced up towards Beckett.
But it was too late. The sound of a bullet echoed throughout the cemetery, creating the echoes of screams from the crowd of people who stood just feet away from a fallen officer. Beckett felt the sharp and instant hit of the bullet in her chest, everything felt so slow for a moment until Castle knocked her down trying to save her life. Castle laid on top of her, panting. He looked down at her wounded, bloody chest. Her uniform was oozing with blood. He looked back at her face, trying to keep it together.
"Lanie, stay down." Esposito ordered, as he rose up looking into the distance to see what ad just happened. Officers were running towards where the shot had come from.
"Don't leave me, please. Stay with me. Ok. Kate, I love you. I Love you Kate." Castle admitted softly, for just them to hear. His heart was pounding out of chest. She was motionless, except for her scared face and blinking green eyes staring back into his. A hint of a smile came to her pale face, along with a tear falling, before she fell unconscious in Castle's arms.
3 months later…
It was a cold September morning, as the streets of Manhattan began to bustle its daily bustle and people made their way towards wherever they were going. The precinct was quiet. A few desks had some detectives working on paperwork, or taking a phone call. Ryan sat at his desk reading a book, Heat Rises. Esposito was in the break room pouring two cups of coffee for himself and his partner. Everything seemed normal, like nothing had ever happened. But normal would mean Richard Castle would be walking through the elevator doors any minute with two latte's in a coffee holder, along with his usual morning grin. Normal meant that a body was found and they would all be heading out to the scene of the crime to solve their next case. Normal would be Captain Roy Montgomery filling out paperwork at his desk in his office, if he were still alive. But there was nothing normal about today, or any day these past few months. Castle wasn't going to walk through the elevator doors smiling, and only two detectives would be heading out to the crime scene. There would be no coffee on Kate Beckett's desk, because there was no Beckett to give the coffee to. It had been three months since Kate Beckett stepped into the twelfth. And today would be the day her absence would no longer be.
This was just a little taste of something I've been working on. I know it's short, but I thought it was just enough to give you guys for now. Thanks for reading!
