Snow Bunnies

Frost speckled the bare branches that over hanged the path. The ground was covered in mounds of snow with only a few green slivers peeking through. The color of the sandy brown dirt was washed out in the white light of the winter sun. Green eyes looked anxiously down the road as trembling hands were brought closer to the shuddering in her chest. Her breath created a halo around her pink hair.

Hands tightened their hold on each other. Her body grew still as the faint outline of two figures emerged from the morning fog. Green eyes locked on blue before wandering. The winter morning felt shattered as a gasp was stolen from her lips and her eyes widened even more. Her whole body seized for a moment before being propelled forward in a clumsy flailing of stiff, cold limbs.

The wind bit into her cheekbones and a stream of tears froze a path along the side of her face. She launched herself into the blonde's arms, never looking away from the strong form of the man behind him. He looked solid and calm. When he looked into her eyes she felt herself drift away from her best friend. Before she knew it, she was in his cold grasp. She tightened her grip as he rested his chin on her head.
