Lullaby
By LittleOwlet
"Edelweiss, Edelweiss. Every morning you greet me." Maria di Angelo's sweet melodic tones could be heard throughout her beautiful and spacious house in America's capitol, Washington DC. She was singing her two year old son to sleep, who had just thrown a fit as he refused to go to sleep when his mother told him.
The two year old had always been a quiet baby and did not cry as much as his sister had. Maria had hoped he would remain a peaceful child, and cause her little strife. Which, oddly enough, he did.
The toddler years would just be the blip.
Maria had always been very patient with her two children. She loved them to the moon and back. Protecting them from all the evil in the world was her top priority. This was a difficult task due to the fact her children were not exactly mortals. More like half god, half mortal. Their mother a mortal with the gift of seeing through the Mist, daughter of an Italian ambassador, and their father, Hades, Overlord of the Underworld.
Nico had cried himself to sleep after his little tantrum. He had curled up in his mother's lap and had fallen asleep there. "Small and white, clean and bright." She ran her slender fingers through the sleeping figure's thick hair. His hair was just like his father's. Black and unruly. "You look happy to meet me." She said in an accent that showed she was from Italy. She smiled softly at her snoozing son, the Prince of Death.
"Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow." She caressed his cheek tentatively. Nico, her Nico, would make her proud. She knew it. One day, when she would be long gone, he would do amazing things and bring pride to her from beyond the grave. "Bloom and grow forever." Her harmonic sounds came down to more than a mere whisper as she sang the last two lines. "Edelweiss, Edelweiss. Bless my homeland forever..."
As she was finishing the song, with as much care as possible, she moved her youngest from her lap and tucked him into bed. He stirred a little and made a little whimper in protest once he was in bed. Maria half smiled at this. Even in sleep Nico di Angelo was still very much awake. She sat on the edge of the bed for a few seconds more before getting up.
She crouched down besides her son's bedside and stroked his cheek once more. Her eyes glistened in the evening sun. Love was written in them. Maria brushed a few stray strands from Nico's forehead before kissing him gently on top of it. She studied him for a moment before putting her rouge lips next to his tiny ear and whispering into it.
"Buonanotte amore mio..."
AN: Just a very quick and short Drabble on Nico and his mother. Something short and sweet to brighten up your day :)
