This Awkwardness

This awkwardness leaves me wondering constantly. Why am I always able to be myself around Rukia? People tend to say that I never smile.

"It's just not in my nature" I say to myself.

My actual reply: "Oh, hehe. I just feel awkward smiling."

"Ichigo?" Rukia asked abruptly.

"Yeah?"

"Why don't you smile?"

"What are ya talking about, I smile." I say smiling.

'King, all ya do is scowl, quit lying to yourself!'

'Shut up! I know that!' I yell back in my head.

"I'd like to see it more often Ichigo, it's beautiful." She says back. I start feeling embarrassed and a blush creeps across my cheeks.

"Umm, thanks I guess."

"No problem, it's the truth."

On the rest of the walk home there was absolute silence. Of course I didn't mind because I prefer silence. With Rukia by my side, it felt awkward. The silence was eating me up inside. I broke it.

"Rukia, do you enjoy being around me?"

"Yeah, sometimes when we argue you get annoying but other than that everything's great." She said smiling.

"Okay, that's cool." I say giving a small smile back.

When we walk in through the door, the ever-so predictable happens. My crazy dad tries to land a flying jump kick to my face. Of course I return the 'love' by kicking him in his chest.

"My son, what's wrong with you? I was just showing some love to my favorite son." He said panting.

"Yeah well I was showing you some too!" I yell back sarcastically.

"Welcome home, my new daughter!"

"Thanks again for letting me stay here."

We walk upstairs and go into my room. Since it's a Friday we don't have any homework. I take off my uniform and change into a T-shirt and jeans. Meanwhile in my closet, Rukia was changing as well. When she came out, I was surprised. She was wearing a skin tight ping tank top and white skinny jeans. She even had her hair in a ponytail with her bangs covering her left eye. I was wearing a tight black muscle shirt with jeans and my black vans.

"Ichigo, why are you staring at me, never mind. Have you seen my pink vans?"

"They're downstairs in the living room…" I was still in shock from her new wardrobe change. We were going to the movie theater with our friends Uryu, Orihime, Tatsuki, and Renji. Rukia and I were the only ones that were single. Tatsuki and Renji have been dating for about two weeks and are already in love. Surprisingly, Uryu and Orihime seemed like they couldn't keep there hands off of each other. Like Tatsuki and Renji, they were constantly in a make-out session. I actually wanted to make-out with Rukia too. Honestly, I thought Rukia was beautiful. With that outfit on, she looked well, HOT! When we arrived to the theater, we all met up and went inside. We were going to watch the Twilight Saga: Eclipse. In the middle of the movie, a red-haired vampire named Victoria sent the "newborns" to attack the alliance of the Cullens and the Black Wolfgang. Rukia jumped and buried her face into my chest. I panicked in my head by the sudden movement but knew what to do. I began stroking her hair to comfort her. I knew it would work because it always worked on Yuzu and Karin. When Bella told Jacob to kiss her, Rukia repeated the words out loud. Her big violet eyes staring into my chestnut brown ones. I bent down and pulled Rukia into a passionate kiss. Our friends (as well as some strangers toward the movie) started cooing and whistling. We laughed and then kissed again for about 10 seconds.

"I guess we're a couple now…"

"Yeah, I guess so." Her beautiful smile made me smirk.

It was then that I realized what the awkwardness was. It was the feeling of peace and happiness.
