AUTHOR NOTES//:I do plan on finishing my other story. There's some chapters I haven't typed up yet. I'll do it probably tonight, maybe tomorrow. This story goes along with that one though. It's after Ren and Mello's "date."

Disclaimer//: I own the poem in this story, and the girl (Ren) writing it. But Death note, Near, etc isn't mine. I wish it was though XD and since this is pre-death note, Near isn't going to be quite as odd as he is in the anime/manga. He might actually be sociable XD

Notice me

White hair, twisted around his finger

Staring at a puzzle, that has no picture

One knee pressed into his chest, the other stretched out

So unaware that I'm here, like a fly on the wall

I wonder if he ever notices me, as I stare across the play room.

Pretending to be listening to music, with muted head phones.

Always scribbling something in a notebook, he'll never know

I write poems, mostly about him

Like he'd ever notice me, the way I notice him.

So until he does, I stay in my corner

Staring at him, listening to the quietness of the room

Pretending not to care

Secretly wishing, he'd notice me.

Oh how I wish for once, he'd notice me.

God damn, I wish he'd look up. At least look at me. But no, that stupid puzzle has all his attention. I bet if I were the puzzle, he'd like me then. Now I just sound crazy.

"LOOK AT ME FOR FUCK SAKES!" I scream.

He looks over. And suddenly, I wish he wasn't looking at me. I quickly point to my headphones, pretending that it's a clever lyric from a screamo song. He raises an eyebrow, twirls his hair around his finger, and looks back down at the puzzle. I feel like a moron, a complete and total moron. But at least he noticed me, right?

I sigh, staring down at the floor. I twirl my own hair around my finger and bite the inside of my cheek. The headphones, which probably belong to Matt or somebody, fall off my head and onto the floor. They make a slight noise as they hit my notebook. It causes Near to look up at me. We make eye-contact. It's a bit awkward, so I look away.

He walks over and picks the headphones up.

"Odd, I don't seem to hear any music."

"Batteries must have died," I lie, grabbing the headphones from his hand.

Our fingers touch. I bite on the inside of both cheeks, to keep from smiling. As I pull the headphones away, I notice my notebook is laying open. My eyes widen. God, how I hope he doesn't see. But I'm not that lucky.

He raises an eyebrow. Busted, completely busted. I try to shut the notebook, but it's too late. He picks it up.

"It's rude to look at people's personal property!" I exclaim, ripping it from his hands.

My face is blood-red. To say I'm embarrassed would be an understatement. I'm humiliated, which is probably an understatement as well. This isn't how I wanted to be noticed.

He's still silent. I think his gray eyes are focused in on me, which makes me even more humiliated. I turn and begin to walk away.

As I make it towards the door, he manages to finally speak up.

"Hey, Ren," he says.

I turn around and look at him. He's right in front of me. We stand face to face. He places a hand under my chin and pulls me closer to him. Our lips meet in a kiss.

As we pull apart, he manages to say, "Maybe I notice you the way you notice me."

AUTHOR'S NOTES//: It seems to just kind of stop right there, I know. But nothing seemed to fit after that final line. Although, I do have some follow up stories planned for these two.
