This is a drabble to the theme of 'Home'. Small spoiler to Destiny.
Summary: After Athrun deserts ZAFT, Meer struggles with her own conscience as to who she is and images of a home that are a distant memory
Distant
He had left. Athrun had actually deserted ZAFT.
Meer sat down on the middle of the plush bed, her thoughts drowning out the noise of the television.
'Why didn't he stay? Why didn't he talk to the Chairman?'
"The Chairman sure is smart," gritted Athrun, "he only has uses for those who will carry out the tasks that he approves off. A convenient Lacus for him and me, the mobile suit pilot."
Meer fisted her hands in her hair, "He's wrong…"
She released her hands and looked at her fingers, 'Is…is he going home?'
A memory flashed in Meer's mind: a shy, lonely girl with grey hair running along a serene field towards a woman with the same features, a smile on her face.
"No!" cried Meer, grabbing her head, "This is my home! I belong here. I am Lacus!"

Meer wrapped her arms around herself, "I am Lacus Clyne, songstress of PLANT!"
:.:You are Meer Campbell. You are an individual:.:
"No! I…"
:.:You are blessed with a voice. They changed you:.:
A unique, but shy girl with a voice that her Mother had called a cherished gift.
"You can't do what you've been doing forever: you'll eventually be killed."
Athrun had said that and the chilling realisation of his words hit her.
:.:Only within your soul can you find yourself:.:
"I…" she whispered, "I have an identity. I am someone. I am…Meer…"
A memory opened before her eyes.
"Mother…"
"Meer, my only daughter," she smiled, "If you ever need anything, you know where your home is…"
The door suddenly opened and Dullindal walked in, "Lacus, I need you to do something for me."
She snapped back, her thoughts washed away at the sound of his voice, 'No one ever admired me as Meer…'
Meer smiled, "Yes, of course."
And she walked out of the room, her Haro following lazily behind her.
'My home is faraway…and long forgotten…'
