A Princess's True Song

Author's Note: This story is set during the events of episode 14 of Season 2.

Princess Amalia was very put out; she had to sit around and wait for the voice thief to show up and do nothing but watch other terrible singers parade their complete and total lack of talent on stage. If only her own beautiful, acclaimed, melodious voice had not been so nefariously snatched from her while she'd been in the bath, she would be up there showing everyone what true song sounded like.

It definitely didn't help matters that one of the singers, that sickeningly sweet bleeping and blooping Enutrof girl, kept winking at Yugo as she kept singing her nauseating song about Kamas and how they flow and make you wet…it was little wonder that poor Yugo kept looking like he was about to die. Really, what did she know? She kept calling the Eliatrope boy 'cute' without any awareness of his nobility, his bravery, his compassion, his cleverness, that way he had about him to rally people under his cause and show them all a much greater purpose than just aimless wandering, unable to ignore the plight of those in need no matter how undeservingly ungrateful they could be…

"Ami?" Yugo suddenly asked, startling the Sadida princess. "Don't worry, we'll get your original voice back."

"Yes, that's good." Amalia said, cringing at the base tone that came out of her mouth.

Yugo frowned. "I know it's odd and it isn't yours, but…I think your new voice actually is kind of funny."

"Funny?" Amalia got up off her chair and leaned over Yugo. "I am the Princess of the Sadida Kingdom, my voice isn't supposed to be funny!" She huffed and puffed over the poor boy.

Who then started laughing. He was laughing at her, the princess! If they were back home in the Sadida Kingdom, she could have him sent into a prison cell for the insolence.

But then she started laughing too, the strangeness of her new voice only making the two young ones laughing even harder together. That was when Ruel Stroud gently bopped the both of them on the head with his shovel. "Keep on guard you two, there are far too many Kamas at stake to let this thief slip through our fingers again."

"Even one Kamas would be too much for you, old skinflint." Amalia muttered, and Yugo nodded his assent with her assessment. When she got her voice back, she would show him that she could sing more than just Pandawa bar songs. She blushed at this thought, but refused to dwell on why.
