Just a short one this time, I've had this stuck in my head for a while and couldn't resist. Another annoying divination teacher (because of course Professor Trelawney wasn't hired until Harry popped onto the scene), and a vision. Enjoy!
It was a dull morning in divination. Professor Wisp had been re-explaining crystal gazing.
Lily continued to take notes, trying her best not to roll her eyes. She would have dropped divination in her third year, but Professor Wisp was a kind man, with a look of child-like innocence that made Lily feel guilty whenever she attempted to approach him with her decision.
James was laughing heartily with Sirius after Wisp had announced that he saw a large black dog, a Grimm, in Sirius' future when the two and Peter (Remus disliked the idea of divination intensely and had never selected it) had continued to talk amongst themselves.
"Perhaps," Wisp said testily, "Mister Potter, Black and Pettigrew already know all about crystal-gazing." When James still did not look up, Wisp continued. "Mister Potter, would you like to demonstrate your skills?"
James grinned. "Of course, Professor Wisp."
Professor Wisp looked taken aback, but still pleased.
The dark-haired youth swaggered to the front of the class, sat opposite Wisp and stared hard into the crystal ball, frowning. After what seemed an age, his brow un-knitted and his eyes widened in surprise.
His friends and Lily sat up in curiosity. Clearly he had seen something.
"What do you see?" Wisp urged excitedly.
"A woman," James confirmed, "holding a baby."
Lily groaned, already knowing where this was headed.
"What does she look like?" the Professor queried.
"She has… long red hair," he said, grinning. His expression softened. "And she's very beautiful."
Alice, who was sitting beside Lily, giggled. Lily glared at her. Sirius and Peter were sniggering at his friend's obvious move.
"And the baby?" pressed Wisp.
"Black hair and green eyes," confirmed James. He smiled. "He looks like me."
Even Lily had to admit, if this was just another stunt to try and prove to Lily that they were 'meant to be,' his acting was impressive.
"Maybe this is a chapter of your own personal future," nodded Wisp, oblivious to James' meaning.
Consternation crossed James' features as he continued to stare into the ball. "She's… screaming. She looks really, really scared of something."
He screwed his eyes shut in a pained grimace, and then turned to Lily, fear plain in his eyes. At that moment, she knew he wasn't making it up.
Hope you liked it! Please favourite and review. I know it was short, but a review would be helpful for my future Lily/James fics. I'm not so sure about the second-last paragraph, tell me if you think it's in character for James. Thank you for reading! Lily/James is my Harry Potter OTP.
