"Where's your Guardian? OH! That's right! You don't have one!" Damon teased; his white tiger looked between us. I ignored him, and continued my way out of the school. Outside I saw lions, bears, tigers, and wolves, all in different colors. They followed people around like the secret service followed the president.

This is Alagaesia, Dragons are extinct, Dragon Riders disappeared centuries earlier, elves and dwarves are thought to be extinct but people swear they see them from time to time. These days' humans rule the land, and they are protected by animals twice as large as the average animal. The animal comes to the human at anytime from the time they are born until the turn 21. No one has ever not gotten a Guardian. Except me. My mother and father died when I was born so no one knows that my parents were elves. To everyone I'm a freak of nature. Everyone is blonde and brown or black eyed and tan and 6 feet tall or taller. I have long silk-like black hair, blue eyes that glowed, I was 5'4 and fair skinned. My aunt called me beautiful, that it's an ethereal beauty. I am 17 and I have no Guardian.

"Loser!"

"Freak!"

"Bitch!"

I ignored them all as I started towards my house. We lived in what was once Carvahall, but it looked nothing the way it did. There were concrete buildings, cars, planes, malls, schools. There was even a thick forest around the outskirts of the town. My aunt lived just on the other side of this forest. We lived on the exact grounds that Eragon Shadeslayer once lived on. It was my land though. Eragon Shadeslayer and Arya Drottningu are on my mother's side. I got my eyes from Eragon's side of the family, his being human and all.

I was walking through the forest, not watching where I was going when I found myself flat on my face. I sat up and looked to see what I had tripped over. It was a giant silver rock. I frowned and leaned over it. I picked it up and rolled it from hand to hand. It was so smooth, and it was warm. How odd, it was cold out. I was just about to put it back down when I heard a loud crack. It was so loud I jumped. I dropped it in the process and it shattered. My heart stopped at what was in its place.

A Dragon.

It craned its head up and looked at me with its glittering silver eyes. I crouched down to get a better look. It was the size of a golden retriever puppy; its body was a glittering kind of silver. Different colors glinted off it. I put my hand over its head, and it bumped its snout against my hand. Shocks of pained shot up and down my body. It got so intense I blacked out.

Something warm was rubbing against my neck. I blinked my eyes open, the light was too bright. My mouth tasted fuzzy. I turned my head to find what was rubbing against my neck, only to find the dragon. I frowned.

"So it wasn't a dream?" I asked, knowing the dragon wouldn't answer me. It nodded, proving me wrong.

"Are you a male or female?" I asked sitting up slowly. It cocked its head to the side.

"I guess only time will tell, huh?" I asked, picking it up and putting it in my lap. It started to make this purring sound. Weird? Very.
