That was what woke up Kuroko Tetsuya. Not his alarm or the lick to the face by Nigou or the smell of a delicious breakfast.
He blindly reached for his phone and groggily noticed that the clock was marking 3:00AM. Who in the right mind calls at this time of the night. Kuroko finally got a hold on his phone and checked who was calling, only to notice that the caller ID was UNKNOWN. He was surprised to say the least. Whenever he exchange numbers he puts them in his contact to know who calls him.
'Might as well answer' he thought as he accepted the call.
"Hello." he answer in a low voice. The line on the other side greeted him with silence.
"Is there something I can help you with at this hour?" looking to his side he saw his lover's sleeping face. He didn't want to wake him up.
"..." Finally the other side spoke. His eyes widened in shock. "..."
"I think you are confused." he paused as the other person spoke. "Please forgive me but, the person I love is sleeping next to me."
Several seconds passed.
"Everything you have said, I truly understand," he spoke calmly, after hearing the man's story."And I hope that you find the man that you speak of."
"You have the wrong number. Good-bye." with that he ended the call.
The phone rang once more. Kuroko knew who it was before even checking the caller ID.
'I need to put an end to this.' the young man mentally prepared himself. The calls have been coming every day for the past week.
"Listen. Please don't bother me anymore." was the way that Kuroko greeted the caller. "It's the middle of the night. I won't answer anymore."
The tone in which the man spoke was pleading and so sure of what he was saying.
"You have the wrong number." This started to sound like a mantra to his ears. "I swear to God, that the man you describe is not me." Why can't this person understand!
Kuroko listened as the person spoke.
"Yes, you have the right address b-" he was cut off by the person, Who's voice was tinged with hope as he tried to prove himself right.
"Like I was saying, the address is correct, but the number is different." the bluenette was apologetic as he tried to convince the other side of the call.
Kuroko listened as the person went on about how long he has been looking for this man who he believed was Kuroko.
The blue head debated with himself whether or not he should tell the caller what he knows about the man he is desperately trying to find.
'I guess I have no choice but to do that. It's the only way to get this person to understand. And for him to have closure.'
"This man that you speak of is no longer here." he confessed somenly. And that statement silenced the other side. Taking advantage of this moments of silence he continued.
"... Because that man..." after taking a deep breath, did Kuroko finished the sentence, "died."
Kuroko listened as the man incoherently tried to make heads and tails of what he just heard.
After a couple of seconds did Kuroko broke the silence.
"The night that you broke his heart." was the last thing that Kuroko said to his ex-lover.
Beep.
For Kuroko Tetsuya had hanged up.
A/N: So I revamped this short story. So for those who read it before will notice the added stuff.
This A/N is dedicated to Rizard13 who needed answers.
1) As for who called him and for the person who is sleeping next to Kuroko, I leave it up to you (the reader) it's more fun that way!
2) I am still writing the other side of the story that will be in the callers POV. The same writing style as this one. Might be up by Sunday.
