The Fourteenth Candle
As I sit in class, I can't stop thinking about this past summer and keep glancing backwards at Leo to see if he's thinking too. This past summer was amazing. Grace became the new magic person of willow falls and I had my first kiss. Leo and I had been on the beach in the water when it happened. That was about a week ago and I'm not really sure if me and Leo are officially boyfriend and girlfriend yet. I admit that I kind of hope that we are. I'm just hoping that he will ask me to the middle school dance in two weeks.
During dinner my mom gets me to tell her that I had my first kiss. When I tell her it was leo, she lets out an excited scream.
"does his mom know?"
"no" I reply
"she will soon enough!"
as she says that the doorbell rings.
My mom opens the door.
"Amanda, it's Leo!" she tells me excitedly "Leo! come in"
"Hi . Can I speak to Amanda alone upstairs?" I blush uncontrollably
Mom exchanges a questioning glance with Dad, and finally says "sure why not."
Leo and I run up the stairs as fast as we can and into my room.
"so, Amanda" he starts fidgeting
, which I know from knowing him for 13 years, that he's nervous
"yeah?" I ask
"would you..do you want to...um.."
"Leo?"
"will you go out with me on a date?"
I start giggling
"Amanda,if you don't want to it won't hurt my feelings"
"YES!" I shout excitedly " Of course I do Leo!" his face lights up
" You actually do?"
"yes Leo, I really do."
"so I'll pick you up at 8:00 tomorrow"
"see you then" as he walks downstairs I hear him talking to my dad.
"oh god" I think. once Leo leaves, I walk downstairs and grab my phone. As soon as I have it I start texting Tara, Stephanie, grace, and Rory all about what just happened.
Tara texts back, " It's about time! He already kissed you. You two will make a great couple!"
grace,"I knew it! Rory owes me 20 bucks. P.S. wear the blue top. You'll know later.
Rory,"lesson learned. Never make bets with a girl who knows everything.
Stephanie,"OMG"
as I try to run up the stairs, my mom stops me.
"Amanda, are you forgetting to tell me something?" she asks
8:00 finally comes. Leo comes to the door with a rose in his hand. And I grab my purse and race out the door. As Grace predicted, I'm wearing a blue top that my grandma bought for me.
"You look amazing." Leo says
"you too"
We head to the car, which I recognize as ray's and get in.
"where are we going on our...date?" I ask Leo
"you'll see." he says with that mischievous glint in his eyes.
We finally arrive at de angelo. angelina's new fancy restaurant in town that she opened with Bucky, her fiancé. Table for Amanda and Leo please. A waiter ushers us to a table.
"So, Amanda I don't want things to be any different between us."
"do you mean that you really don't want us to date?"
"no! Not at all! I just meant that I want to still be able to talk as friends, and not as...um..."
"It's ok Leo. you can say it"
"I want to still be able to talk as friends, and not just as boyfriend and girlfriend."
"me too" we sit in silence until the waiter comes to take our order.
when the night ends, and we arrive at my house, Leo steps out of the car and wheels around to my side. When he opens the door, he takes my hand and helps me out of the car. He holds my hand until we get to the door. I reach for the doorknob, when he says,"Hey, what about a kiss goodnight?" I giggle as I lean over and plant a kiss on his lips. He blushes redder than an apple.
"well, goodbye." I finally say
"bye he replies."
as soon as I open the door, Kylie bombards me with questions
"so how was your first date? are you going out again? did you kiss?" When she finally stops for a breath, i say,"it was amazing! And I don't know if we're going out again."
"But did he kiss you?" she asks again
"yes!" just then, mom comes over to ask me a bunch of questions. I just tell her,"Wait until after dinner!"
