"Goodnight Bane", a parody of Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Disclaimer: I do not own The Underland Chronicles, no matter how much I wish I did. Also, I don't own Goodnight Moon. But then, I don't think I could have rambled for ages about random stuff in a bedroom. Plus, did anyone know that hardly anything rhymes with "roaches"?
On the Tartarus Plain,
There was a battlefield and a nearby cave
With a giant white rat that they called the Bane.
And there were roaches asleep piled up in a heap,
And a bloody-red river, and a torch that shimmered,
And echoing shouts, and a bleeding mouse,
And a bat who had died, and the boy at his side
Who whispered to his bond and silently cried.
Goodnight Plain. Goodnight Bane.
Goodnight battlefield and the nearby cave.
Goodnight soldiers who couldn't be saved.
Goodnight roaches asleep in a heap.
Goodnight river and goodnight shimmer.
Goodnight rats and goodnight bats.
Goodnight echoed shouts and goodnight mouse.
Goodnight bodies, goodnight open eyes.
Goodnight Ares, who unfairly died,
And goodnight to Gregor, who won't leave his side.
Goodnight claw. Goodnight hand.
Goodnight to the Underland.
