A/N – One in the morning. Can't sleep. So here this is.
Unavoidable Loss
Sonic didn't see it. There was no way he could. It lie years in the future when his juvenile ways succumb to blooming adulthood, leaving him to wonder why he took so long to mature; to recognize the warmth that spread throughout him when he heard her voice; to understand the anticipation of tomorrow, knowing she'd initiate another chase; to comprehend the needles of annoyance that pierced his heart when her attentions were for someone else.
Sonic didn't see it. He didn't know that in three short years, one hedgehog could tire of chasing another. He didn't know that Amy Rose—who had pursued through rain and snow, trailed across deserts and seas, and followed unnumbered times into danger—would grow tired of having her heart spurned.
Sonic couldn't see it, but it was coming. With each speedy sprint and with each rapid dash, he was hurtling closer to a moment he would despise.
But what could he do?
"Sonic!"
He couldn't see it…
"I love you!"
…and so he didn't know…
"Wait!"
…he was losing Amy Rose.
