It Never Mattered

Heavily, she breathed in the icy air and waited to feel it permeate her lungs and chill her blood. She could barely see the strange turquoise color the sky had turned through the icicles attempting to seal her eyelids shut. The inky blackness of her hair stretched out onto the mounds of bitter ice and chilling snow that surrounded her. It served its purpose of being the only indicator of her existence in this frozen ocean of white, for her complexion had taken on a dangerous pallor that would worry even the most heartless of friends.

And although her body lay motionless in this expanse of frigid nothingness, her mind was on the sunny hills and gorgeous sunsets of Karakura. In Karakura there was Yuzu, Goat-face, Ichigo, and, on the days where she had perfect timing, him. Weren't they reasons enough to keep her mind off the numbness that was creeping up her fingers?

But it never mattered, she had always adored winter more than anything…anyone.

And as the time passed her consciousness could only stay on their faces for so long. Soon their words drifted through the hazy Karakura fog that she created in her mind.

Hadn't Yuzu always said that she was going to get hurt if she kept on recklessly exposing herself to the Karakura winters?

Didn't Goat-face idiotically cry that his baby was going to get sick if she played in the snow for too long?

Wasn't that a twisted look of epitomical brotherly concern on Ichi-nii's features when he threw his jacket in her face?

But it never mattered, she had always adored winter more than anything…anyone.

He once said that snow and ice were far more than mere toys for amusement. They should be treated with care and wariness for they were deadly weapons of destruction and oblivion. Cold and uncaring of those that showed them favor. Glorious one day. Hideous the next. He would know, he was ice, snow, winter, and all the beautiful things she could never capture for more than a season wrapped up into to one grumpy, brilliant, perfect package.

But it never mattered, she had always adored winter more than anything…anyone.

In the end all she wanted to do was help him.

So here she was, dying by the hands of what she had cherished, no loved loved loved, the most. This cold was not his cold, this ice was not his ice, and this deaths' embrace was nothing like his. Yet, that was what her traitorous mind was forcing her to believe. It didn't matter if it was a horrible unjustified death by illusion. It didn't matter if it was his fault she put herself in danger anyways. It didn't matter if that bastard that wanted to rule the world enjoyed taking away anything close to him.

It didn't matter because she was going soon.

And she may not remember.

And they may never meet in that place.

And he may die today too.

But it had never mattered, she had always adored HIM more than anything…anyone.

Herself included.

AN: So thats just a drabble I came up with in my spare time. Forgive me for killing Karin...I just started catching up with naruto and it got me in a really depressed mood. Um its not really beta-d so grammar corrections are welcome!

For those who are reading As the Dusk Emerges, I have not abandoned it!! I'm just taking a break for a while, school is getting hectic. Hopefully by summer I get inspired! Meanwhile I'm considered doing some more drabbles of this variety. What do you think? Let me know and I may come up with somemore stuff.
