Hermoine sat on the window seat of her dorm room looking onto the grounds of Hogwarts. It had been almost ten months since she had begun her relationship with Draco Malfoy. Ten months since Ron, Harry, and Ginny had stopped talking to her. Ten months since she had become the disappointment of Gryffindor. She didn't mind, she had Draco and he loved her right?
It seemed that way, except for the fact that the last month had been strange. First it started off with Draco excusing himself every time they were in a room alone together. It was becoming strange. Then he was spending all his time with Pansy and Lavender… two completely different girls but girls none-the-less. She was not the jealous type but he spent more time with those two than with her, his own girlfriend. And as of late, he told her that he had quidditch practice all the time… little did he know that her dorm room looked over the quidditch field. He was nowhere to be seen… Her stereo began to spew out a song that made her want to turn it off but kept her from moving.
I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this my heart of mine embraces all day through,
It was hard to think that he was drifting away from her so quickly. She had been blind to thinking that this one was perfect and that the relationship was real and solid. She really thought this one would last. She wasn't really sad either, she was just empty. She somehow knew this was coming, she was just denying it for so long.
She remembered all the trips to Hogsmeade that they had taken together, sitting in the Three Broomsticks drinking warm butterbeer and talking of what they would do together in the summer. They walked out along the lake under the large welcoming trees. It was strange to think that none of their plans would come true. She was going home this summer, alone.
In that small café
The park across the way
The children's carousel
The chestnut tree
The wishing well
Hermoine knew what she had to do now. There was no way out of this situation except for this route. She didn't want to do it, but the song had inspired her and she knew that what had pulled them apart was not a rope that she could repair. She went to her desk and opened a parchment to write a letter. It read:
Dearest Draco,
I know that this past month we've drifted from each other. I understand. I'm not mad; I only feel that I will miss you. Listen to this song that I've enclosed, that is my goodbye. I love you darling, if you ever need me, I'm just a call away. I'll always be here for you.
I'll be seeing you in every summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
She read the paper over and over. It sounded so formal and empty. It was not at all what she was aiming for. Their relationship was not formal, and definitely not empty. She returned with the quill to another sheet of parchment to try again. She had to make this right, so if there was even a spark of hope that they weren't over… she wouldn't push him out of her life by mistake.
I'll find you in the morning
And when the night is through
When she looked up from the letter that she had read a thousand times, Hermoine noticed the sun had gone down. She looked to the moon and thought fondly of times past. This wouldn't keep her down, she just needed time to heal, and repair all the bridges that she'd burned when she stepped across the last unsteady one. It was going to take a while, but she could move on.
I'll be looking at the moon but I'll be seeing you
A/N: So it was fluffy, I'm trying to teach myself how to do short stories without being fluffy. Ugh, I'll get it right sometime. Just keep reading and send me some tips. Remember to review and PM me!
