Don't

Pairing: Lucas&&Peyton
A/N: I'm back to OTH roots. I wrote in this forum for a while, and then stopped. But this time I'm writing an LP. Just something different and to challenge myself.
Review please!
"You rang?"
I look up to a mass of honey blonde curls with blue eyes walking into the Starbucks. Peyton Sawyer was a good friend, but she also happened to be my (now) ex-girlfriend's best friend.
"Uh, yeah. Sit down, Peyton. Please." She looks at me strangely and sits down tentatively. "What's this about, Lucas?" I run a hand through my hair. "Have you talked to Brooke?"
She cocks her head a bit to the side, as if she's confused. "No. But I think I know what you're going to say." My face twists into a frown. "Yeah. She ended it today. She says she needs …space."
She rolls her eyes. "Luke, it's been this way for a long time. We both knew she was going to break it off." I bury my face in my hands. She didn't get it. "But it's a lousy excuse. I could give her space. All the space she needs. But it gets worse, Peyt."
She fiddles with the lid on her coffee cup that she had just received from the barista. "How did it get worse, Lucas?" She says it in a tone like she is obligated to ask. I look up and stare at her. It wasn't just 'space', Peyton. She left me. For Nathan."
Finally she starts to show some compassion, reaching out to touch my hand. "I'm sorry, Luke. That wasn't fair of her. But she's my best friend. My first obligation is to her."
I jerk my hand away from hers, with the realization starting to sink in. "You knew, didn't you Peyton?" She bites her lip. "Don't make this about me, Luke. It was painfully obvious. She fell out of love with you. It happens."
"She cheated on me, Peyt. It's like you don't even care." I say it in a stern tone, restraining myself from yelling in a public place. Her face turns into a hurt expression. "Of course I care. But you're not exactly the poster child for staying faithful. I'm sorry she left you for Nathan. But honestly, Lucas. Think about Haley. She has a child with Nathan and he left her."
Exasperated, I forfeit. "Okay, I'm done fighting with you. But why are you so 'Team Brooke' on this?" She shuffles her feet. "She's my best friend. Stop making it such a big deal." My frustration is about to boil over. "She freaking cheated on me. It's not right, you know that."
She groans. "You know, Luke, Brooke and I used to be so close. The only drama that ever happened between us was because of you. It's not like I told her to cheat on you. Of course we argued over it. But you know our promise. Hoes over bros. I care about you, Luke. But you're not Brooke."
Something starts to click in my head. "You wanted this to happen." Her face turns doubtful. "What are you talking about?" I lean back in my chair. "How do you feel about me, Peyton Sawyer?"
She rocks back and forth in her seat. "We're friends. Good friends." Her nervous tone only helps my theory. "You want to be more."
Her face turns alarmed and she sits up straight in her seat. "What the hell are you smoking?" She's defensive. She always does that when she's trying to keep a secret. "Peyton, I've known you for years. You're acting like you wanted us to break up."
She stands up to leave. "We're nothing, Luke. We've been nothing for a long time." She walks out of the Starbucks and I run after her. "What if I told you I was okay with the fact that you're still harboring feelings for me?" She puts her hand on top of her head in frustration. "I'd say leave it alone." She attempts to walk away from me, but I tug on her wrist gently. "What if I told you I still had feelings for you?"
She walks over to me cautiously and gives me a feather-light kiss. "I'd say maybe I'd consider it." I let out a chuckle. "Peyton Sawyer," I look into her eyes, "Nothing always turns into something."
A/N: Not my best work, but I liked it. Don't be too harsh, it's my first LP :)
