Max Headroom: Desdinova Generation 2
Varanasburg was not a very big town. It had a population of about five thousand people. Out of these, less than half a thousand were over the age of sixty and more than one thousand were under the age of twenty-five.
Jani Eutami waved to her best friends as she ran up to the short stone wall at the entrance to the Lynch Memorial School. Jani was one of the one thousand citizens of Varanasburg who was less than twenty-five years old. At nine years, she was an twelfth generation Desdinovan. Her family tree, like that of everyone else, could easily be traced back to her Earth ancestors. If she had ever been asked, she would have told them that she was descended from the House of Clary. Jani's friend, Sara Silverbell, who was waving back to her, could trace her family back to the Noble House of Lynch, which was said in those days to be the Desdinovan equivalent of a royal house.
The House of Clary had three branches, the Eutamis, the Montanus, and the Capis while the Noble House of Lynch had two branches, the Gavi family and the Halleflowers.
There were other families on the planet Desdinova as well. But most of those lived in other cities. The Blackleaf, Goswing, and Leafcutter families lived two towns over in the farming community of Greenlily. And the Gardners, Smiths, and Marlins lived in the coastal village of Hallifax-by-the-Water.
The Gardners, Goswing, and Marlins could trace their family lines back to the house of Izzard. While the Blackleaf family had their ancestry in the Stubbins household. A family squabble had lead to some of that family striking out on their own, after symbolically changing their last name to Leafcutter.
