Just so you know, this started off as a hope for a Gabriel/Sam one-sided DVD kink because I was in the mood, but then it kind of petered out into just a drabble which kind of stands by itself. Anyways, I hope that you like it. Sorry it's not epic or anything but I happen to quite like it. :D
...
The first time he had seen it, it was merely the dying statement of a righteous dick. A righteous dick that had eventually done the right thing, but a righteous dick all the same.
And although Sam would be mortified to be caught admitting it, he missed Gabriel. Sure, the dude had caused him pain, but at the same time he had caused him so much hope. The archangel, despite his cruel tendencies and lack of respect, was inspirational. He hadn't realised it at first, but when he had left him in the hotel to battle it out with his brother he had done it for them. Not for Heaven, Hell, God, Michael, angels, demons, not even for Kali and the other Gods. And not just the Winchesters, but for humanity in itself. They had a common goal, Sam had realised as they were driving away in the Impala at ninety miles an hour, and Gabriel died for the same cause that they were fighting.
And that just kind of made the guy alright in the end.
And when he saw the DVD, surprised as he was and even slightly amused at the remarkable Gabriel-ness of it all, he knew that it wasn't just a dicky way of asserting his power and superiority by telling them that they didn't have any chance of killing the Devil without him. It was an admission also, that they were right; that underneath his facade he cared about humanity; that he needed to stand against to his brothers to fight for his own cause even though he was frightened to.
Sam hadn't thought to take the DVD out of his laptop after he had finished watching it, but merely left it there and although he remembered in a Freudian sense, he did not dare take it out. Not out of respect for the archangel and from the denial that he was gone.
Because underneath it all, Gabriel wasn't all bad.
