A Mouthful of Sanae's Cooking

Sanae beamed and offered him another plate. 'Finished,' she said brightly, as her husband stared at the lumpy bits of flour and…other things.

Akio grimaced, forced his expression to change into a grin, and swallowed the contents of that plate in one go. 'Great,' he coughed, trying hard not to taste as he swallowed. 'Brilliant.'

She hit him with the tray. 'Your face says otherwise,' she snapped, stomping off. Hopefully not to try again, but Akio knew his wife and while she was a hopeless baker, she wasn't one to give up.

Just like he knew that smack on the head was just her being upset at her inability and not at him. And just as he knew he didn't have to force himself to eat her creations. Nobody else did. But just as they didn't mind giving up their jobs so they could work from home and be there for their daughter, he didn't mind swallowing the disastrous kitchen experiments so he wife felt a little better.

Him swallowing proved they were edible after all. And though customers joked that he must have a stomach of iron, he'd never thrown up once. Not from Sanae's cooking anyway.
