Gosh, it's been quite a while since I posted anything on here...
I've now been at university for two months studying French and Creative Writing. One of the tasks we had in Creative Writing was to write a villanelle. And since it's Rememberance Day in the UK as well, I decided to do one about Crisis Core.
Enjoy!

A Soldier's Grief

There is one thing to learn as a Soldier
To hold your honour, dreams and pride
Remember that we are not a monster.

The courtyard fills with mindless murmur
New recruits fresh and starry-eyed
There is one thing to learn as a Soldier

One cadet leans in to whisper to his neighbour
'I heard one of the top three recently died.'
Remember that we are not a monster

The Lieutenant stops by an army trooper
Clasping his arm before resuming his stride
There is one thing to learn as a soldier

Everyone manages to avoid each youngster
At least until their eyes have dried
Remember we are not a monster

No one mentions the Lieutenant's white feather
Or dares to pull that trooper aside
There is one thing to learn as a soldier
If we grieve, how can we be a monster?
