Summary: Because you don't like falling and don't want to.

"Do you love him?"
Deryn swallowed, then pointed at the screen. "He makes me feel like that. Like flying."
― Scott Westfeld, Goliath.

She'd rather not call it falling for someone, even if it's him.

Because, honestly, she doesn't have intention of falling for anyone, especially not him. Unlike most people's point of view from just friends to something more, Izuki doesn't find it hard. It's easy to her and she always smiles.

She's Izuki Shun the eagle girl, and that's what she does.

Fortunately, he feels the same way (she knows he knows he does.) and even though both of them believe in free will, Izuki thinks fate has decides that they'd get married someday. Like all those romance novel that she has forced to listen, wondering she will ever feel that feeling when they kiss their true love. (Still, it's something far away in the future - she doesn't believe in them, remember? - and Izuki is the type of girl who believes in the present only. You won't have the future if you don't treasure the moment right now.)

She definitely prefers the term of flying in love. Definitely not falling.

Izuki doesn't like falling, even the sound of this world sounds painful somehow, and she lets herself think she has enough pain. She has been watching the eagles soaring in the air since she could barely talk. She loves watching them upandupandup and claps her hands in delight. They're up in the air, she's up in the air, invincible and can do anything. (She isn't called the eagle girl for nothing, her friends see Izuki in the those birds and Akashi Seijuurou sees her as the plain Izuki with a dream of being an eagle.)

Flying in love is a good sensation and she wants to feel it.

Then one day, when he decides that it's a time to say it, to get past the friendship stage. Much to her surprise (and slightly annoyance), he starts with:

"I think I've fallen for you."

"Oh, no." says Izuki.

Akashi raises an eyebrow.

"Pardon me?" He looks as if he can't believe that she doesn't feel the same way.

She explains, a bit awkwardly because he's now staring at her and she's always weak to his eyes.

"Akashi-kun… I mean, Seijuurou, you know I don't like the sensation of falling." 'And I'm sure you don't.' "It'd give you unpleasant feeling. And flying these days is a frisky business…"

"I don't see the relation."

"Just… flying makes you invincible. You make me feel invincle. I will never fall for you. I'm flying for you."

"Eagle girl." He says fondly. "So, I just have to say I'm flying for you?"

"Much better." She nods as he pulls her into a kiss, has decided to cross the carefully placed line. Yes, she does have some feeling in her stomach, but it's not falling.

She hates that word, remember?

Kissing him feels like flying again.

(Eagle Girl, don't you always fly? Because it takes him rather long to have your heart.)
