Bodies. Bodies everywhere. There were bloody bodies lying on the battlefield in any direction. Some were unconscious, some struggling to stay awake. Some near death, and many already dead, but none of the ones that were moaning and pleading to be tended to mattered to Hinata. All she was looking for was a certain brunette with bright red markings on his cheeks.
Hinata activated her Byakugan and searched the area, skimming over the faces of those who were around her. Some looked familiar, like people she has passed by while taking a walk around the village on a nice sunny day, and others who she has never seen before.
When she came across the face she desired, Hinata gasped at the state he was in and rushed towards him, taking care of the wounds she knew she was capable of healing. Kiba's face was dirtied and scratched, his right arm burned in several places, while the left had a deep gash from his shoulder to his elbow. One of his legs were long gone, the remnant a bloody stump. There was a sword going through his midsection and he was panting hard. Hinata almost cried out, were it not for her own dirty hands covering her mouth. Tears were threatening to fall out of her eyes, but she rapidly blinked them away.
"Ki…Kiba…" Her voice was raspy, yet soft and not much louder than a whisper, but Kiba heard it.
"Hey…Hinata. I…I'm glad to…to see that…you're okay." He let a weak grin take over his features, and shakily raised his left hand to cup her face gently. Hinata leaned into it and cherished the moment, fully aware of the fact that it could be the last time they would ever be so close.
After a few moments, an explosion blew behind them and Hinata shielded the body underneath her with herself and held his head against the crook of her neck. Once the heat settled down, she laid Kiba back on the ground and surveyed him carefully. He was pale and his aura wasn't the cheerful and excited one her usually had. This one was…calm, if you could describe it in a way.
Drawing the sword from her teammate's stomach slowly, she placed the weapon on the ground beside her and caressed his bloody face slowly, humming a soft tune. Her eyes were closed and she almost felt at peace.
Almost.
"Hi…Hinata," Kiba croaked. Hinata's eyes shot open and stared right into his dark orbs, urging him to continue. He opened his mouth to speak, but ended up coughing out blood. He attempted again, and succeeded, though Hinata had to strain her ears to his words.
"I…I lo…love you, Hinata."
Silent tears spilled from Hinata's round eyes. She wore a gentle smile and on her face and leaned forward so that their foreheads were touching. She let out a choked sob and closed her eyes, wishing that they could be together forever. And in that moment, she realized something. The feelings she always believed were reserved for a certain blond haired boy weren't for the right person.
"I love you too, Kiba. I love you too."
Kiba leaned up, closing the gap between them. The kiss was soft, yet passionate, and gave them a warm feeling all throughout their body. Even with the metallic taste of blood, they enjoyed every second of it. When they leaned back from each other, they regained their last position.
"I…I wish…that we could…stay like this, in each other's arms…forever."
Kiba fell limp, his eyes closed. His skin was cold and pale, all signs of life gone. Although sad at the loss of her teammate and lover, Hinata stared off into the sky, corpse in hands, with a ghost of a smile on her face. Silent tears were once again rolling down her cheeks, but all she could do was repeat the last word the boy in her arms said to her.
"Forever."
